The spring breeze brushed against her face, bringing Rose back to her senses.
She hadn’t expected Trevor to have returned to the country.
Opening the car door, she exclaimed in surprise,
"Mr. Robinson? Are you in Washington, D.C., right now?"
Airport announcements could still be heard in the background.
He must have just landed, as the call had come through almost immediately after his arrival.
"I’m in New York," Trevor replied.
Rose was even more surprised.
After all, the Robinson family’s main branch was based in Washington, D.C.
Shouldn’t he have returned to headquarters first to handle business there?
Before she could think it through, Trevor spoke again.
"I have several meetings and public events to attend today. I’ll probably be finished around seven. Are you free this evening?"
After a brief pause, he added, "I’d like to see Ariel. I have an early flight to Hong Kong tomorrow morning."
Trevor’s voice was calm and composed, completely different from Ryan’s detached and indifferent manner.
Glancing at the time, Rose realized that Trevor’s return was also connected to Ariel.
Warmth spread through her heart.
For some reason, she suddenly felt a glimmer of hope.
"I’m free," she replied. "But Ariel is staying at Dr. Nathan’s house. If it’s convenient, would you like to come there tonight?"
It was only a suggestion.
Trevor had no objections.
"Alright. I’ll see you tonight."
Although they weren’t especially close, Ariel connected them in a way that made their relationship different from ordinary acquaintances.
Trevor and Dr. Nathan were also on friendly terms.
In many ways, Ariel had brought all of them together.
During the two years Trevor had spent overseas, Ariel had often been cared for by Dr. Hale and his wife, and everyone had remained in contact.
Rose had always been grateful to Trevor.
Even though she knew he had agreed to become Ariel’s nominal father only to avoid an arranged marriage.
They had both entered the arrangement for their own reasons.

"What’s wrong?"
Caleb noticed the subtle change in Rose’s expression and leaned over curiously.
Rose smiled. "Mr. Robinson is back. He’ll be at Dr. Hale’s house tonight."
She glanced at him. "Want to come?"
Caleb looked surprised. "When did he get back?"
Rose thought for a moment. "He just got off the plane. He’s still at the airport."
Caleb gave her a meaningful look. "He called you the moment he landed?"
Lowering her head to send Diana a message, Rose replied without looking up, "What’s that supposed to mean?"
Caleb chuckled and shook his head as he gripped the steering wheel. "Nothing."
Then he added with a grin, "Just get along well."
Rose didn’t have time to analyze his expression.
Diana had already replied with a string of question marks.
The next message came immediately afterward.
[Trevor is back? When? Already?]
Rose typed back: [You didn’t know either?]
Diana replied: [Does he look like the type who reports everything to me?]
Rose considered it.
Fair point.
Trevor had contacted her because the matter involved Ariel.
But...
Her gaze drifted back toward the conference venue.
Thinking about it only gave her a headache.
The issue with the divorce certificate had come completely out of nowhere.
Margaret had shown no mercy, and Ryan still hadn’t managed to retrieve it.
Even with Trevor back in the country, Ariel’s legal custody status couldn’t be resolved immediately.
The thought made Rose grit her teeth in frustration.
Inwardly, she cursed Ryan.
His romantic complications were interfering with matters that truly mattered.

Trevor was genuinely busy that day.
A mountain of work awaited him after his return.
The company had new strategic initiatives to implement, and he also had a business dinner scheduled for that evening.
The driver sent to pick him up was a new employee.
Seeing Trevor end his phone call, the driver smiled.
"Mr. Robinson, checking in with your girlfriend?"
Trevor loosened the top button of his shirt as he settled into the back seat.
His expression didn’t change. "No."
After a brief pause, he added calmly, "She’s the mother of my child."
The driver froze. "You’re married?"

Samantha was not in a particularly good mood after the approval conference.
