Chapter 345: Chapter 345 The Man Standing Beside Her

The moment Samantha mentioned Ariel’s name, something inside Rose went cold.

A familiar chill raced down her spine, followed by a surge of pure, burning anger.

She knew exactly what Samantha was trying to do.

For someone who had spent her entire life adored, admired, and handed everything she wanted, this fall from grace had to feel unbearable. Samantha had gone from being the center of everyone’s world to sitting in an interrogation room, stripped of her freedom and dignity.

Rose could imagine the desperation.

She simply didn’t care.

"What does you or your mother’s future have to do with me?" she asked, her voice calm enough to cut glass. "My mother is still lying in a hospital bed, alive only because of machines and medication. The people responsible got to live comfortably for years while she suffered. Haven’t you enjoyed enough?"

Samantha’s eyes immediately filled with panic.

"Rose, please..." she begged. "You’re being cruel. I’ve already lost everything. What more do you want from me? I still have a child to raise. You’re a mother too. Don’t you understand?"

Rose stared at her as though she were looking at a stranger.

"My mother had a daughter too," she said quietly.

The words landed harder than shouting ever could.

"When your family stole everything from us, did anyone stop to think about me? Did your mother show my family mercy? While my mother worked herself into the ground, you grew up in designer clothes, private schools, luxury vacations, and a house that should never have belonged to your family."

She took another step forward.

"You built your entire life on my mother’s pain."

Samantha’s face turned white before flushing bright red with humiliation.

Rose’s fingernails dug into her palms.

The sting only sharpened her resolve.

"No one escapes the consequences forever," she said, every word deliberate. "I’m going to see this through until the very end."

She looked Samantha straight in the eye.

"And every single one of you is going to answer for what you did."

Without another glance, she walked out.

Behind her, Samantha remained frozen on the floor.

Her mind had gone completely blank.

Everything she’d counted on was slipping away.

For the first time in years...

She truly had no idea what to do next.

Rose stepped outside the sheriff’s office and paused.

The police had brought her there earlier, which meant she didn’t have a car.

The station sat well outside downtown, surrounded by stretches of empty road and warehouses. The nearest place to catch a rideshare or taxi was nearly a mile away.

She adjusted her purse and started walking.

A black Mercedes-Maybach eased up beside her.

The passenger window lowered.

Ryan glanced over from behind the wheel.

"Need a ride?"

"No."

She didn’t even slow down.

The sedan continued creeping alongside her.

"You might want to hear what I found out about your mother’s accident."

Rose stopped instantly.

Ryan braked just ahead of her and unlocked the passenger door.

Without saying another word, Rose climbed inside.

The car pulled smoothly back onto the road.

For a few minutes, silence filled the cabin.

As Rose looked ahead, her eyes landed on the small pale-blue charm hanging from the rearview mirror.

It was a simple fabric pouch—the kind people bought at churches or roadside shrines to hold a blessing or prayer card.

She remembered seeing it before.

Back then, she’d assumed Samantha had given it to him.

It was still there.

Had Ryan simply never bothered removing it?

Or had it become so insignificant that he no longer even noticed it?

Rose looked away before the thought could go any further.

"So," she said. "What did you find?"

Ryan kept his attention on the road.

"It started after I took control of Bennett Antiques."

Rose frowned.

"When I reviewed the company’s records, I noticed something strange."

He tapped the steering wheel once.

"Your family’s ownership documents didn’t hold up under legal review. There were forged signatures, fake notarizations, altered property transfers—the paperwork was a mess."

Rose listened quietly.

"When I first acquired the business, Logan kept delaying the handover of the original records. He knew I’d eventually discover the problems."

Ryan paused before continuing.

"Eventually he had no choice."

He remembered the charity gala Samantha had insisted on hosting at the antique gallery.

The publicity surrounding the event had forced Logan to clean up years of unfinished paperwork.

"Once I had access to everything," Ryan continued, "I started tracing the filing dates."

He glanced briefly toward Rose.

"The forged ownership transfer was completed one day before your mother’s accident."

Rose’s breathing slowed.

"...One day?"

Ryan nodded.

"Exactly one day."

He didn’t need to explain the implication.

If Logan had already secured ownership illegally before the accident...

Then the accident itself became impossible to ignore.

There were coincidences.

And then there were timelines like this.
