Ethan looked at her pointedly and asked, “What’s your company’s core competency?”

“Design–you know that,” Naomi replied, looking back at him with confusion.

“So

do know. Since design is your core focus, you’re not familiar with manufacturing operations.

“You should concentrate on honing your design work instead of thinking about expanding into production. That’s outside your expertise, and expanding for that purpose wouldn’t add real value to your company,” Ethan explained clearly and logically.

But Naomi wasn’t actually concerned about the post–expansion plan. Her idea of buying equipment to manufacture her own designs was just an excuse.

Her real goal was to keep up with Arabella!

Why did Arabella get Ethan’s investment to expand her company, while she couldn’t?

“Ethan, I know you’re an expert in this field. Can you give me some advice?

“What areas could my company expand into with the right investment?” Naomi pressed, now that her first idea had been shot down.

Ethan sighed, a little exasperated. “After all that, you still don’t see it? Your company is perfectly fine as it is. There’s no strategic need for investment or expansion.”

He had made it clear enough this time–she really should understand.

“Ethan, I don’t really get it. Why can Arabella’s company get an investment to expand, but Naomi’s can’t?” Ruby mustered her courage and asked Ethan cautiously.

“There are a lot of things you don’t get. I suggest you worry less about them in the future,” Ethan replied with subtle sarcasm.

“Alright, Ethan knows what he’s doing. He wouldn’t overlook a project with real potential,” Florence interjected, seeing Naomi and Ruby pestering him.

Then she took Arabella’s hand and said, “Arabella, come with me–I want to show you what I picked out.”

She was using this as an excuse to leave with Arabella so she could ask about Matthew in private.

The two of them then headed upstairs.

Seeing that Florence and Arabella had gone up, Ethan didn’t feel like staying in the living room either.

Now, only Naomi and Ruby were left in the large living room, looking at each other in awkward silence.

“Naomi, should we go upstairs too?” Ruby asked.

“Go upstairs for what? You can head home,” Naomi said dismissively, her tone tinged with frustration.

She then stood up and walked out toward the patio.

“Why take it out on me? It’s not like I refused to invest in your company,” Ruby muttered unhappily, shooting a glare toward the patio before standing up to leave as well.

Still, she made sure to gather all the shopping bags she had brought and took them with her.

Up in Arabella’s room, she looked at the sizable pile of shopping bags and felt a slight headache coming on.

How had Florence managed to buy so much?

“Arabella, come try this on. I fell in love with this little jacket at the showcase–it’ll look absolutely stunning on you,” Florence said with a bright, enthusiastic smile.

Arabella couldn’t really refuse, so she walked over and slipped it on.

Florence’s eyes lit up as she looked at her. “Just as I thought–it suits you perfectly.”

“Thanks, Mom,” Arabella said politely.

“Don’t be so formal with me. If you thank me like that again, I’ll really get upset,” Florence chided playfully.

Arabella offered a small smile.

Looking at how lovely Arabella looked, Florence gently steered the conversation. “Arabella, where did you and Matthew go after you left?”

“We just met up outside so I could give him Robert’s medication, and then he left,” Arabella replied casually.

While talking with Florence, Arabella suddenly remembered that Matthew had asked for her banking details earlier.
