Matthew’s voice, for some reason, carried a chill that seemed to drop the temperature.

Even without turning, Lucas felt the hair on the back of his neck stand up. He instinctively glanced over his shoulder.

His gaze met a pair of deep, unsettlingly intense eyes. The man’s stare was profoundly unnerving, and in that brief moment of contact, Lucas could have sworn he detected a flicker of outright disdain.

He froze. Had he somehow offended this guy? Why was he looking at him like that?

Arabella also noticed Matthew walking toward them, her expression registering surprise.

“I thought Robert was already discharged? What brings you to the hospital, Mr. Stewart?” Arabella asked, a note of curiosity in her voice as she acknowledged him.

“A few days ago,” she replied, meeting his gaze evenly.

Ethan cut in smoothly, “The doctor said it’s minor. She just needs to stay off it for a while. His tone cooled as he added, “You’re a busy man, Mr. Stewart. There’s no need to trouble yourself over Arabella’s condition.” The dismissal in his voice was clear.

First Lucas, now Matthew. Why were they both so fixated on his sister? Their intentions couldn’t be pure. She didn’t need their brand of concern.

Hearing the protective edge in Ethan’s words, Matthew glanced at him. “Dr. Macdonald has been of significant help to me. It’s only natural I’d show concern when she’s injured.”

He then turned his attention back to Arabella. “Dr. Macdonald, there’s no need for you to come to Stewart Manor for the time being. I’ll contact you if anything is required.”

“Alright,” Arabella agreed. Even if he hadn’t said so, in her current state, a house call was out of the question anyway.

Listening to this exchange, Lucas couldn’t contain his curiosity. “Arabella, don’t tell me you’ve been treating Robert?”

“Yes,” Arabella confirmed simply.

Hearing this, Lucas‘ face lit up with genuine astonishment. “You’re seriously that good? How come I never knew about this?”

“There wasn’t much to tell. It’s just treating a patient,” she replied plainly.

“Treating an ordinary patient is one thing. Treating Robert? That’s a whole different league. The people qualified to treat him are either legends or top–tier specialists.

“You’re incredible! And you kept it so quiet. I had no idea your skills were at that level,” Lucas gushed, his admiration evident as he momentarily forgot about Matthew and Ethan standing right there.

“It’s not as grand as you’re making it sound. The topic just never came up before,” Arabella said with a slight smile.

Watching this man shower Arabella with praise right in front of him, and seeing her respond with such easy warmth, Matthew’s displeasure intensified. There was something about this guy he just didn’t like.

Not wanting to stand there watching Lucas any longer, Matthew addressed Arabella. “There’s a matter I’d like to discuss with you. Would you mind stepping aside for a moment?”
