“Oh, thank god you’re here… If you hadn’t come back, your next visit would’ve been to a jail cell,” Freya wailed, tears and mucus streaking her face. Finally, she had someone in her corner.

Seeing his sister in such a state, Calvin Clark’s temper flared. “What happened to you? And what do you mean, jail?”

He’d been on a business trip when he got the frantic call that Freya was injured and hospitalized, so he’d rushed back immediately. He just hadn’t realized the situation was far worse than a simple injury. ·

“It’s all because of that cursed girl—” Freya abruptly bit back the rest of her sentence. The police officer was still in the room, and some things couldn’t be said aloud right now.

Noticing her hesitation, Calvin played along. “Just try to stay calm. Are you in pain somewhere? Should I call for the doctor?”

As he spoke, he gave Freya a subtle, meaningful look.

Freya caught on after a second and immediately let out a low, pained groan. “My leg… My head is splitting… I can’t stand it. Am I dying?”

“Hold on, I’ll get help.” Calvin hurried out and soon returned with a physician in a white coat.

While the doctor began his examination, Calvin turned to the remaining officer. “Officer, my sister seems. to be in severe distress. Could we postpone the questioning until after the doctor has assessed her?”

The officers exchanged a glance. Seeing that obtaining a coherent statement was impossible for the moment, they stepped just outside the door to stand guard.

Once they were out of earshot, Freya seized the moment while the doctor was adjusting his stethoscope to whisper a rushed summary of events to Calvin. All her hopes were pinned on him now.

After listening, Calvin’s face darkened. “You’re telling me Arabella is behind all this?”

That wretched girl had that kind of reach?

“What do I do now? Carter’s been arrested, and I’m stuck here. If this isn’t handled, I’ll be transferred from this bed to a jail cell!”

“Freya, don’t panic. I won’t let that happen. I’ll figure something out,” Calvin promised firmly, though his mind was racing.

“But…” Freya’s eyes darted nervously toward the door. “What do I do right now?”

The police were still right outside. How was she supposed to get through the next few hours?

“First, you need to…” Calvin leaned in, his voice dropping to an almost inaudible murmur as he instructed her.

Freya grasped the plan instantly. She immediately clutched her temples and let out a theatrical moan.

Shortly after, she let her body go limp, feigning unconsciousness.

“Freya! What’s wrong?”

“Doctor, she’s passed out! Check her, now!”

After making room for the medical staff, Calvin stepped back into the hallway to address the officers. “My sister has lost consciousness. The doctor is with her now. You’ll have to wait until she’s stable for any questioning.”

The officers looked skeptical, but with medical personnel actively in the room, they couldn’t reasonably force the issue. Their orders were to guard the location regardless.

Calvin soon slipped away from the hospital. He had a mess to clean up, and he needed to move fast.

A few days later…

Arabella’s ankle had finally healed completely, and she was officially cleared from using the wheelchair.

Stepping out of Cloudrise Manor on her own two feet, she took a deep, satisfying breath. “Ah… it feels incredible to be walking again.”

“You know, I think you just got used to being pampered,” Ethan teased from beside her, a playful glint in his eye.

“Not at all. I know everyone was worried, and I appreciated it. But I can’t stay in a wheelchair and be waited on forever. I have things to do,” Arabella replied. Of course she understood their concern–that was the only reason she’d tolerated the restrictive routine. Left to her own devices, she would have been buried in work days ago.

“Alright. Now that you’re fully discharged, you’re free to dive back into whatever you want,” Ethan conceded with a smile.

“Ethan, about those revised architectural plans you sent over–I’ve reviewed them, and they look perfect. Can we break ground on the expansion?” Arabella asked, her tone shifting to a more businesslike one.

“I’ve been waiting for you to say that. All the prep work is done. If you give the final green light, we can start construction today,” Ethan confirmed.

A wide grin spread across Arabella’s face. “Perfect. Let’s get started.”

“Consider it done.” With that, Ethan pulled out his phone and made a quick call, issuing the go–ahead.

He had handled all the preliminary logistics and permits in advance, waiting only for Arabella’s final approval on the design.

Now that the last piece was in place, the project could launch immediately.

“Having you manage this really makes everything move at lightning speed,” Arabella remarked sincerely,
