Naomi considered it for a moment and said, “You’re probably right. I must have misheard.”

“Don’t waste your energy thinking about it. It’s already surprising she picked up some medical knowledge–how could she possibly understand design, too?” Ruby said, reassuring Naomi.
“Mhm,” Naomi agreed, then asked. “So what did you need?”
“Nothing urgent. I was just bored and wanted to chat,” Ruby replied. “Even though I’m better now, Lucas hasn’t been coming to the training center, and you’re not here either. It’s just too dull on my own.”
“If Arabella isn’t going, Lucas probably won’t either,” Naomi mused. “She hasn’t been to the academy in days–I wonder why.”
“Well, that’s because Lucas was in the hospital,” Ruby blurted out without thinking.
Naomi was taken aback. “He was hospitalized? Since when? How do you know that?”
Feeling a pang of guilt, Ruby sidestepped the direct question. “Oh, I… I heard some people talking about it at the academy.”
“Oh, I see,” Naomi replied, not pressing further. “I’ve been swamped lately and can’t make it to the academy for now. If you’re not in a rush, we can wait and practice together another time.”
“That’s what I figured too. With Lucas gone, it’s no fun there anyway. I think I’ll just head home for now,” Ruby said.
“Alright, talk to you later then.” Naomi ended the call and continued her drive to the office.
After hanging up, Ruby stuck out her tongue.
“That was close,” she muttered to herself. No one was supposed to know the details about Lucas, and she definitely couldn’t let anything slip.
She glanced around to make sure no one was within earshot, felt a bit more at ease, and then left the training center grounds.
After finishing breakfast and saying goodbye to Florence, Arabella arrived at the company.
“Ms. Hamilton,” Chloe said with a professional smile, “Justin has been formally arrested and has confessed to everything. He admitted to pressuring and bribing Jacob into making that error. Jacob has agreed to your terms and provided a full statement identifying Justin.”
“Good. Understood,” Arabella replied.
Chloe asked, “So, are you really going to arrange treatment for Jacob’s mother?”
“Of course,” Arabella said. She wasn’t in the habit of going back on her word.
She looked up at Chloe. “How is the patient doing?”
“Following your earlier instructions, we’ve transferred her to the specialized care facility you designated,” Chloe answered.
Arabella instructed, “Bring me her full medical file–all the charts and paperwork from her treatment so far. I need to understand

the specifics of her condition first to confirm a treatment plan.”
Chloe looked surprised. “Are you planning to perform the procedure yourself?”

“That depends,” Arabella explained. “If it’s just a matter of covering medical costs, I can provide the best possible care environment and footing the bill. If there isn’t a suitable surgeon available, then I’ll step in if necessary.”
“Alright, I understand,” Chloe agreed. “I’ll have the documents prepared and sent to you right away.”
“Mhm.” Arabella nodded.
“Knock, knock, knock.”
A knock came at the office door, and Arabella looked up.
“Alfred!” Arabella exclaimed, her face lighting up. “When did you get back?”
“Just landed in Doranor a little while ago,” Alfred said as he walked in. He glanced at Arabella and his expression shifted to one of mild concern. “You look tired. Didn’t sleep well last night?”
“Yeah, I was up a bit late,” Arabella admitted, not going into detail. She looked at Alfred with genuine concern. “Your assignment must have been exhausting. Why come straight here instead of going home to rest? Is everything okay?”
“Everything’s fine. I just wanted to see you first,” Alfred said, taking a seat. He watched Arabella behind the desk, his eyes crinkling with amusement. “You know, you look pretty impressive sitting there.”
“Alfred, are you making fun of me?” Arabella said playfully. “I’m sure Frank and Ethan look far more ‘impressive‘ in their offices than I do.”
“Why would I want to go look at those two? Of course, you’re the one who looks best,” Alfred laughed.
Arabella couldn’t help but laugh along. “You’d better be careful. If Frank or Ethan finds out you said that, they might come after you.”
“Even if they heard me, it wouldn’t change the facts. They still don’t look as good as you do,” Alfred insisted, keeping up the teasing.
“Alright, Alfred, stop trying to flatter me,” Arabella said, knowing he was just joking around.
“If there’s nothing urgent, you should really go home and get some rest,” she added, feeling a fresh wave of concern for her brother
Alfred shrugged. “It’s really fine. The mission actually wrapped up a few days ago. I stayed behind at headquarters to tie up some loose ends, so I’m not that tired.”
“Oh, really?” Arabella felt a little relieved.
