Chapter 354 Alfred Intervenes
Chapter 354 Alfred Intervenes
“Of course I trust you,” Lucas said with a laugh. “I’m just…. pleasantly surprised.”
Seeing Lucas smile like a kid who’d just won a prize, Alfred couldn’t help but feel a slight sense of distaste.
“Let’s eat first. After that, I’ll help you change the dressing,” Alfred stated calmly.
Lucas immediately shook his head. “No, no, I wouldn’t want to trouble you. I’m sure Arabella can manage it.”
“No need to bother her with something this straightforward. I’m quite capable myself,” Alfred insisted.
“That doesn’t feel quite right…” Lucas thought to himself, feeling increasingly uneasy.
“It’s perfectly fine,” Alfred replied, his tone even. “We’re friends too, aren’t we? Friends help each other out.”
“I…” Lucas was at a loss for words, unsure how to argue against that.
Alfred turned to Arabella. “Don’t worry about it. I’ll take care of it.”
Arabella didn’t mind either way and agreed, “Sure, that works.”

Her main concern was simply ensuring Lucas‘ wound was properly cared for. As long as that was done, who did it wasn’t important.
“Alright then,” Alfred said with a satisfied nod.
Lucas couldn’t hide the flicker of disappointment in his eyes, and suddenly the food in his mouth seemed to lose its flavor.
What just happened? How did things turn out this way?!
After lunch, Alfred helped Lucas change the bandage on his shoulder.
Arabella checked to make sure the wound showed no signs of infection and felt a little more at ease.
“Lucas, you should rest. We should probably get going,” Arabella said gently.
Though reluctant to see them leave, Lucas was still reeling from the earlier disappointment and simply said, “Okay. Drive safe. Let me at least walk you to the door.”
“No need, stay put,” Arabella said with a soft smile. “It’s not our first time here—we know the way out.”
Lucas looked at her tentatively and asked, “Will you come by again tomorrow?”
“Of course.” Arabella nodded. She wanted to be sure his recovery was on track before she could truly relax.
Lucas then glanced at Alfred, who spoke up first, “I’ll be here too.”
“Oh. Okay,” Lucas replied mechanically, feeling a sourness worse than if he’d bitten into a rotten lemon.
“Alright, we’re off now,” Arabella said her goodbyes and left with Alfred.
Once they were in the car, Alfred asked, “Where to?”

Arabella checked the time. “Let’s head back to the house first.”
“Alright,” Alfred replied, starting the engine and pulling away from the curb.

“Oh, you two came back together?” Florence looked at Alfred with pleasant surprise. “Did you just get back from your assignment?”
“Yeah, I ran into Arabella, so we came back together,” Alfred said, omitting the part where he had gone to her office first.
“So, now that you’re back, does that mean you’ll be staying for a while?” Florence asked further.
“Yes,” Alfred replied. “No immediate assignments, and Naomi’s birthday is coming up soon.”
Florence sighed softly. “Yes, it’s just three days away now.”
“Is everything prepared?” Alfred asked.
“All arranged,” Florence assured him.
“Good,” Alfred said, not inquiring further.
Arabella spoke up, “Alfred, you just got back today. Why don’t you go upstairs and rest for a bit?”
“What about you?” Alfred asked.
“I have some things to take care of outside later,” Arabella replied.
Since she didn’t specify, Alfred understood she preferred not to elaborate and didn’t press. He simply said, “Alright. But if you need anything, just call me.”
“Okay,” Arabella agreed.
“Mom, I’m heading up to my room,” Alfred said.
Arabella added, “Mom, I’m just going to grab something and then head out.”
“Alright, go take care of your business,” Florence said with a warm smile.
The two of them went upstairs and returned to their respective rooms.
Arabella quickly retrieved a compact carrying case and came back down.
“What’s that?” Florence asked curiously.
“It’s something for a friend. I’m just going to drop it off,” Arabella said, offering a vague excuse.
In truth, it held her sketching supplies.
Florence didn’t ask for details and simply reminded her, “Try to be back early tonight.”
“Got it, Mom. You should rest. I’m heading out now,” Arabella said before leaving Cloudrise Manor.
