Chapter 401 Urgent Summons Home
“Oh, I have to go–right now.”
Hanging up the phone, Dylan furrowed his brows and said, “My mom just called. She wants me home immediately.”
“What happened?” Harper asked, her voice laced with concern.
Dylan shook his head. “No idea. She didn’t say over the phone, but she sounded really stressed.”
“Then you should hurry back. I’ll go with you,” Harper offered quickly.
“Yeah, let’s go.”
The two of them rushed out in a hurry.
Lucas let out a short laugh. “Please. That’s all they’ve got?”
“They won’t even have that much for long,” Arabella said coolly, watching them leave.
Lucas gave her a confused look. “Wait, do you know something I don’t?”
Arabella just shrugged, offering nothing more.
Lucas pressed, genuinely curious now. “Why do you even let her talk to you like that? Is it ‘cause of Edward?”
“Not worth the energy,” Arabella replied evenly.
Lucas couldn’t help but chuckle. “Yeah, you’re right. You really don’t let stuff get to you.”
“Let’s eat, little boss,” Arabella said with a smirk.
Lucas froze mid–reach for his fork. “How did

But one look at Arabella’s knowing smile, and he gave up. “Okay, okay. I wasn’t trying to hide it from you. This place really is my
dad’s.”
“It’s fine,” Arabella said lightly. “You had your reasons for not saying anything.”
“It’s not like I had some huge secret reason,” Lucas admitted, rubbing the back of his neck. “I just don’t want to take over the family business, so I’ve never really gone public about who I am. Flying’s my thing, so I’ve been crashing at my uncle’s flight school. If word got out that I’m admitting who I am out here, they’d drag me back in a second.”
“You’ll have to go back eventually.” Arabella pointed out gently. “No point stressing over it now.”
“But I really hate all that management crap,” Lucas sighed.
Arabella gave him a knowing look. “Still, someone’s gotta take over the reins sooner or later.”
“Yeah, I know,” Lucas muttered, slumping a little. His future suddenly felt a lot heavier.

“Look, you’re not going back today anyway. Worrying about it now is just gonna ruin your appetite,” Arabella said, trying to cheer him up.
Lucas looked up at her, still puzzled. “But seriously, how did you figure it out?”
“I guessed,” Arabella said, a playful glint in her eye.
“Guessed?!” Lucas‘ jaw dropped. No way.
Arabella explained simply, “If you were just some random customer, the staff would’ve tried to smooth things over first. They wouldn’t have immediately taken your side and started kicking people out.”
Plus, the way he’d handled the whole thing–there was a confidence there that didn’t scream “ordinary guest“.
Lucas shook his head in admiration. “Man, you really don’t miss a thing.” She’d picked up on a detail most people would’ve overlooked.
For a second, Arabella’s mind drifted. She thought of Matthew–someone just as sharp. Maybe sharper.
“You okay?” Lucas asked, noticing her distant look.
Arabella blinked and shook off the thought. “Yeah, I’m fine. Let’s eat.”
She shot him a grin. “Since this place is yours, you’re paying.”
“Obviously! I’m a guy–I can’t let you cover every meal,” Lucas said, lowering his voice conspiratorially. “But don’t get it twisted- just ‘cause it’s my family’s spot doesn’t mean I eat free. So yeah, order whatever you want.”
Arabella laughed despite herself. “You’re that strict with your own parents?”
“Gotta be. Can’t give ‘em any leverage to drag me back,” Lucas explained with a shrug.
“Ah, so that’s why you’re so careful around Mr. Jarvis. You’re scared he’ll kick you out of the school, huh?” Arabella teased.
Lucas grinned, scratching his head sheepishly. “Yeah, pretty much.”
“Ha–ha–ha…”
“Heh–heh–heh…”
At Johnston Villa, Dylan and Harper rushed through the front door.
“Mom, what’s so urgent?” Dylan asked, irritation creeping into his voice. “I just got thrown out of a restaurant by some smug guy hanging around Arabella. If you hadn’t called, I’d have dealt with them by now.”
Sarah’s brow furrowed. “Why were you anywhere near her again?”
“Sarah, it’s not like we ran into her on purpose,” Harper jumped in, seizing the chance to twist things. “She was obviously trying to latch onto Dylan.”
Sarah gave Harper a brief, unreadable look. “Harper, this is a bit inconvenient. We have some family matters to handle today, so I’m afraid we won’t be able to have you stay.”

I started the novel with great interest. In the beginning the storyline was captivating. Then I feel that the more the story advances, the twists were no longer great. Moreover I don't like Arabella s personality, cold, distant......
