rabella nodded. “Yeah, there’s an empty lot nearby. I thought it’d be a good spot.”
Well, I hope it works out,” Matthew said, his gaze warm.
Thanks.” Arabella gave him a bright smile. Even though it was just an experiment, she really did want it to succeed.
ime always seemed to fly when you were talking over a meal.
Then Matthew’s phone rang, Arabella realized it was already well into the afternoon.
Hello.” He picked up.

Got it. I understand.” After hanging up, Matthew looked at her. “I need to head back to Horizon Corp. Where are you headed? I can rop you off first.”
Don’t worry about it. I can get back on my own,” Arabella said. “Sounds like Andy’s got something urgent for you, right?”
he hadn’t meant for their meal to run this long and didn’t want to hold him up.
t’s not that urgent. I’ve got time to take you,” Matthew said, getting up. “Let’s go.”
hey headed downstairs, paid at the front, and walked out.
fter leaving the restaurant, they got back in the car.
atthew dropped Arabella off at the pharma facility before driving away.
ack in her office, Arabella sat at her desk, momentarily lost in thought.
latthew seemed different today–it was the first time she’d seen this side of him, so approachable, almost gentle.
hinking back to when he’d pulled her out of the way at the drying shed, Arabella felt her heart skip slightly.
he way he’d wrapped his arms around her, solid and warm, had made her feel so safe in that moment.
atching herself, Arabella shook her head slightly. “Arabella, what are you even daydreaming about?”
ydreamin
he snapped out of it and dove back into work.
ifter Matthew got back, Andy came over. “Mr Stewart, everyone’s already in the conference room!
Mm.” Matthew nodded and headed that way
Andy followed. “Also, we got word about that investment prodigy, Marla”
Matthew paused, his voice dropping “Go on.”
She’d vanished after that last auction. He hadn’t expected her to surface again.

“This time it’s strange. She put money into a follow–on round for some small company’s project–way smaller than anything she’s done before. And…” Andy hesitated. “That company belongs to Dr. Hamilton’s brother.”
“Edward.” Matthew’s expression, calm until now, flickered.
That was odd.
Why would someone like her suddenly take an interest in such a minor project?
And of all companies, why Edward’s?
He couldn’t help but think back to how confidently and knowledgeably Arabella had talked about investments earlier.
“Anything else?” Matthew’s eyes narrowed slightly, his voice low.
“Not yet. From what we can tell, Marla hasn’t shown her face anywhere,” Andy said, meaning they hadn’t turned up anything useful.
“Keep digging.” With that order, Matthew walked into the conference room.
Andy stayed outside and dialed a number.
“Yeah. Look deeper into the Marla situation.”
‘Got it.”
He hung up, frowning. “Why do I feel like Mr. Stewart’s expression got weird the second Edward came up?
‘Does Edward even know Marla? Otherwise, I can’t figure out why someone at her level would bother with a small company’s ollow–on round. That’s completely not her style.”
The more he thought about it, the stranger it seemed. Andy was genuinely curious now. “Hope we turn up something new
As night fell, Ethan picked Arabella up from work and drove her back to the house.
‘Arabella, you’re home.” Florence greeted her with a warm smile. “Come, sit down.”
Settling onto the couch, Arabella glanced at Naomi and Ruby, her brow lifting just stightly.
Those two seemed off today, especially Ruby–why did she look so drained?
“Mom,” Arabella said as she sat. “Everything okay?”
“Nothing much.” Florence smiled. “How was your day? You tired?”
Arabella shook her head. “Not really.”
“Mom, Arabella closed a deal with Shane Group today,” Ethan announced proudly
“Shane Group? The one everyone calls the gold standard in pharma?” Florence’s eyes went wide. “Our Arabella’s incredible!”
Ethan added, “Yeah, Mr. Shane was so impressed with how much she knows, he agreed to the partnership on the spot”
“I always knew Arabella was something special,” Florence said, raising her voice. “Paul, tell the kitchen to whip up a couple extra2/3

“Mom, that’s really not necessary. It’s just work,” Arabella protested. It didn’t feel like celebration material.

But Florence waved her off. “Of course it is! We have to celebrate. My daughter’s so brilliant–I want to shout it from the rooftops.”
She wanted everyone to know she had a daughter this amazing.
“Arabella, just go with it. It’s only a few extra dishes,” Ethan coaxed.
Seeing how happy Florence was, Arabella didn’t want to dampen the mood and finally gave in. “Thanks, Mom.”

I started the novel with great interest. In the beginning the storyline was captivating. Then I feel that the more the story advances, the twists were no longer great. Moreover I don't like Arabella s personality, cold, distant......
