Chapter 420 A Plan Formed
If it weren’t for Arabella, he probably wouldn’t have made it this far–he might not even be here today.
“You ungrateful child!” Freya grabbed a throw pillow and hurled it at him.
Edward caught it easily and tossed it onto the floor.

“Mom, there’s no need to get so worked up. At the end of the day, it’s the Macdonald family that’s losing out,” Edward said, his voice cold.
“What are you talking about?” Freya’s voice pitched higher, taking on a sharp edge.
Edward stood up. “You know exactly what I mean.”
Without another word, he walked out of the room.
He’d thought that maybe, just maybe, if his mother showed even a flicker of remorse during this visit, he might find it in himself to forgive her. But she hadn’t.
The Clark family–what a joke.
They were nothing but parasites, leeching off the Macdonalds, bleeding the family dry without a second thought.
“Mom, Uncle is your brother, but I’m your son too. Doesn’t that count for anything?” Edward’s chest ached.
Even if whatever she’d once felt for his father had faded, how could there be no maternal love left for him?
Back in the living room, Freya sat frozen, her mind blank.
So Edward knew. He knew everything.
“Mom, what did Edward mean by that?” Harper asked, confused, not following the undercurrents of the conversation.
“Nothing” Freya shook her head, unwilling to explain.
“But if he won’t help us, what are we supposed to do?” Harper pressed, anxiety freeping into her voice.
It wasn’t just Calvin’s problems anymore–the Johnston family was a mess too. She felt like she was coming apart at the seams
“Let me think of something else.” Freya forced herself to stay composed.
“Ugh, I bet Arabella got in his ear. My brother’s so clueless–he believes everything she says.” Harper’s voice dripped with
resentment.
“What did you say?” Freya frowned.
Harper pouted, “When I went to see my brother earlier, Arabella had security stop me from going up. Then she talked to him–who knows what she said. Probably trashed us.”
“That little witch.” Freya’s jaw tightened.
Arabella must have found out something and told Edward.

Now Edward didn’t even care about their bond anymore.
“Mom, you have to get back at her for me!” Harper clung to Freya’s arm, her voice turning whiny.
Freya patted her hand. “I know. Don’t worry.”
Her eyes hardening, Freya pulled out her phone and dialed Calvin. “Come over. We need to talk.
“Just get here soon.” She hung up impatiently.

After ending the call, she turned to Harper. “Your uncle’s on his way. I have things to discuss with him. Go wait in your room for
now.”
“You’re going to talk about getting back at her, right?” Harper’s eyes lit up with hope.
“Yes. Now go.” Freya gestured toward the stairs.
“I’ll be waiting for good news then.” Harper practically skipped upstairs.
Hmph, just wait, Arabella. Let’s see how long you can keep that smug look on your face.
A while later, Calvin arrived.
“Freya, how’d it go? Did Edward agree?” Calvin asked eagerly.
Freya shook her head, fury simmering beneath the surface. “Might as well not have a son.”
“He’s really not going to help us?” Calvin’s voice rose in disbelief. “He’s just going to stand there and watch us fall apart?”
“From what Edward said, he knows. About us… about the Macdonalds.” Freya’s voice dropped to a whisper.
Calvin’s face went pale. “How could he know?”
“All because of that wretched Arabella.” Freya’s teeth clenched. “God knows how she found out.”
Not only had she found out, but she’d told Edward.
“No wonder he was so dead set on starting his own company back then, refused to come back and help us.” Calvin’s expression darkened. “So what do we do now?”
Freya’s lips curled into a cold smile. “Edward wants to protect that little witch? Let’s see if he’ll still turn us down once we have her.”
“Freya, you mean…”
“Handle the arrangements.”
“Got it.”
Night fell, and the city lights flickered to life.
The Grand Plaza Hotel was decked out in stunning, over–the–top elegance. Stepping inside felt like entering another world.
“Wow, Naomi, Aunt Florence and Uncle Jonathan really adore you. Look at this party—it’s so extravagant. I’m literally dying of jealousy!” Ruby’s eyes swept across the venue, her heart swelling with envy.

Naomi smiled. “My birthday’s always like this. You’ve seen it before. Are you making fun of me by acting so surprised?”
“Of course not! I genuinely envy you. If my birthday party were even half as nice as this, I’d be more than happy.” A hint of bitterness crept into Ruby’s voice.
She’d never had a real birthday party–just a few gifts each year, and that was it.
‘Your parents are just too busy. Next year, for your birthday, I’ll throw you a party myself. How does that sound?” Naomi offered, her tone comforting.
Ruby’s eyes widened. “Really?”
‘Really. Have I ever lied to you?” Naomi promised.
‘Naomi, you’re the absolute best!” Ruby beamed.

I started the novel with great interest. In the beginning the storyline was captivating. Then I feel that the more the story advances, the twists were no longer great. Moreover I don't like Arabella s personality, cold, distant......
