Chapter 432 Explosive Accusations
“My happiness?” A bitter, mocking smile twisted Naomi’s lips. “So calling off my engagement to Matthew and marrying me off to some random stranger–that’s what you think I deserve?”
Florence tried to stay calm, her voice gentle but firm. “How can you say that? No one is forcing you to marry anyone you don’t want to. But you’re fixated on Matthew, and he doesn’t feel the same way. You know you can’t force something like that, right?”
But Naomi was beyond listening to reason. She was too far gone.
She whipped her head around and shot a venomous glare at Arabella, who was quietly eating her melon. “Are you happy now?” Naomi spat.
Arabella’s gaze hardened, her voice cool as ice. “This is your mess. Keep me out of it.“.
Without missing a beat, she speared another piece of melon with her fork and took a bite. She was hungry. She hadn’t eaten a hing at the event, and judging by how this night was going, dinner didn’t seem to be happening anytime soon.
The sight of Arabella so completely unbothered only fueled Naomi’s rage. She clenched her jaw. “Oh, please. Drop the act. You eep saying you don’t care about Matthew, but you’re always right there, lurking around him, sabotaging my engagement. And hen you have the nerve to play innocent? Don’t you see how pathetic that is?”
rabella’s brow furrowed slightly, a chill radiating from her.
rank’s voice cut through the tension, sharp and cold. “Naomi, do you even hear yourself right now?”
laomi let out a sarcastic laugh. “I hear myself just fine. I’m just telling the truth.”
than shook his head, his expression one of deep disappointment. “You’ve had a rough night. We’ll pretend this didn’t happen. ust go upstairs and get some rest. Hopefully, you’ll wake up tomorrow and realize how out of line you were.”
Out of line?” Naomi’s voice rose, incredulous. “So I finally call her out on her crap, and suddenly I’m the bad guy? Well, I’m not lone. She told me straight up she didn’t like Matthew, but she’s always hanging around him, acting all chummy.
She told Ruby she wasn’t interested in Lucas, but she never actually stays away from him. You really think she’s this sweet, nnocent girl? That’s just the face she shows you.”
‘That’s enough!” Jonathan’s voice boomed through the room, silencing everyone instantly.
He took a breath, visibly struggling to control his temper. “Naomi, apologize to Arabella. And effective immediately, you’re confined to the house. You need time to think about what you’ve said and done. You’re not to leave until you’ve genuinely reflected on your behavior. As for the company, I’ll have someone cover your responsibilities for now.”
Naomi stared at him, her face pale. “You’re taking back the company? The one you gave me?” A broken laugh escaped her. “So what am I to you people? Some dog you can throw a bone to and then take it away whenever you feel like it?”
Jonathan’s jaw tightened. “The company is still yours. But you need to step back and clear your head. It’s for the best.”
Naomi’s voice dripped with bitter self–pity. “So you believe her. Not me. I don’t know why I expected anything different.”
Arabella set down her fork, her voice cutting through the room like a blade. “Are you done yet?”
Naomi’s eyes snapped to her. “What? Afraid I’m exposing the real you?”

Arabella met her gaze, unflinching. “Exposing what, exactly?”
Naomi’s lips curled into a mocking smile. “You’re good. I’ll give you that. You can sit there looking completely innocent through all of this. I underestimated you. You win.”
“You didn’t lose to me.” Arabella’s voice was flat, dismissive. “You lost to yourself. And the most pathetic part? Instead of owning it, you’re lashing out at the people who actually care about you.”
She stared at Naomi, pure contempt in her eyes. “You’re a failure.”
Naomi flinched like she’d been slapped. “What did you just call me?”
“You heard me.” Arabella’s tone didn’t waver. “You said it yourself–you’ve known your whole life that you were supposed to marry Matthew. And after all these years, you still haven’t figured out how to make him look at you twice. If that’s not failure, I don’t know what is.”
She leaned back slightly, her gaze never leaving Naomi’s face. “But failing is one thing. Refusing to admit it? Blaming everyone else? That’s just pathetic and petty.”
She gestured vaguely around the room. “Your problems are yours. I don’t care about them. But what you don’t get to do is use your hurt feelings as an excuse to tear down the people who’ve spent their whole lives loving you.” Because those people–Florence, Jonathan, her brothers–they mattered to her.
Naomi’s face contorted with rage. “Who are you calling pathetic?”
Arabella raised an eyebrow. “You. Obviously.”
Naomi’s voice cracked. “If it weren’t for you, Matthew wouldn’t have rejected me!”
“Then go talk to him!” Arabella shot back, her patience clearly gone. “What’s screaming at me going to solve? He’s a phone call away. Go fix it yourself.”
“You-!” Naomi’s finger trembled as she pointed at Arabella, completely at a loss for words.
Arabella looked at her with utter disdain. “Get a grip. This little tantrum? It’s embarrassing. Who exactly do you think you’re honoring with this behavior?”
Her voice softened, just slightly. “Look, I get it. You’re not their biological daughter. But they raised you. They love you. And even now, knowing there’s no blood connection, they still treat you like their own. They’re still trying to figure out what’s best for your future. You don’t have to be grateful, but you don’t get to say the things you just said to them.”
Naomi’s chest tightened. Despite everything, her eyes flickered toward Florence.
“Mom… I…” She bit her lip, her expression conflicted.
Florence let out a long, weary sigh. Despite the hurt, she couldn’t bring herself to be angry at the girl she’d raised from a child. “Naomi… we handled this badly. We should have talked to you first. If those young men tonight weren’t right for you, that’s okay. Whenever you do find someone you truly care about, you come to me. We’ll throw you the wedding of your dreams.”

I started the novel with great interest. In the beginning the storyline was captivating. Then I feel that the more the story advances, the twists were no longer great. Moreover I don't like Arabella s personality, cold, distant......
