He lifted his hand absently to his chin, touching the spot where her lips had brushed against

him.

That soft, brief contact had done something to him. Something he wasn’t quite ready to

examine.

Upstairs in her office, Arabella pressed her palms to her cheeks. “Okay. It was an accident. Get it together,” she muttered under her breath.

Chloe appeared in the doorway with a coffee mug, looking puzzled. “Sorry–did you say something?”

Arabella blinked, caught off guard. “What are you doing here?”

“You asked for coffee earlier.” Chloe held up the cup. “So… do you still want it?”

“Leave it.” Arabella honestly couldn’t remember asking, but the mug was already there, so maybe she had.

Chloe hesitated, studying her. “You okay, Ms. Hamilton? Your face is a little flushed. You feeling alright?”

“Probably just warm from outside.” Arabella looked away.

“Oh. Okay” Chloe didn’t press.

“You can go. I’m fine.”

“Sure thing”

The door clicked shut. Arabella exhaled slowly, trying to steady her pulse.
