“Fine. Keep your secrets.” The receptionist rolled her eyes.

The phone rang. She snapped back into professional mode instantly and answered.

Andy wandered to the seating area, dropped onto a couch, and picked up a newspaper.

Why is Mr. Stewart in such a good mood?

Because he held Dr. Hamilton’s hand, that’s why.

“Mr. Stewart’s onto something,” Andy murmured to himself, “but he’s not all the way there yet.”

Arabella led Matthew to the R&D floor.

“Dr. Hamilton. Mr. Stewart.” A lab assistant looked up. “Mr. Clement is still in the lab.”

“How’s it looking?” Arabella asked.

“He hasn’t left in days. Knowing him, he’s probably made some progress.”

“Got it.” Arabella nodded, then glanced at Matthew. “Sounds like he’s in the middle of something. Better not interrupt.”

“Agreed.”

Arabella raised an eyebrow. “So, coffee before you go? Or are you heading straight out?”

Matthew suppressed a smile. Leaving was his only option?

“How’s the herb cultivation area coming along?” he asked instead.

“I was about to check on it.” She paused, eyeing him. “You… want to see it?”

“Problem?” He was already walking.

“Whatever makes you happy.” Her voice came through slightly gritted teeth.

Matthew caught the mix of annoyance and resignation. The corner of his mouth twitched.

They reached the cultivation area a few minutes later. The square plot had been cleared, weeds gone, soil freshly turned.

“Not bad.” Arabella looked pleased. “Prep work’s done.”

She’d planned to check on it anyway. If everything was ready, she could start planting soon.

“Well.” She gestured. “This is it. I’ve got other things to do, so I won’t keep you.”

Matthew’s jaw tightened slightly. She really couldn’t wait to get rid of him.

“Mr. Stewart.” Andy appeared, lowering his voice. “Board’s waiting. Meeting.”

Matthew’s expression flickered. He glanced at Arabella, then turned and walked off.

Arabella exhaled long and loud, dropping into a nearby chair. Finally. She could breathe again.

After a moment, she pulled out her phone and called Colton.

“Tell me you’ve got something,” she said as soon as he picked up.

“You have to save me!” Colton’s voice came through, half whine. “Andy called. They want me at Horizon Corp tomorrow.”

“I know.” She frowned. “I meant the scene. Are you still there?”

“No, no.” He quickly clarified. “When I got your call and heard you talking to Mr. Stewart without actually talking to me, I figured it out. I left immediately. Someone else is handling it.”

“Good.” Arabella relaxed. Thank God he’d picked up on it.

“But seriously—what happened?” Colton pressed.

She hesitated. “Let’s just say Matthew happened to be there. He helped me out.”

“Let’s just say?” That didn’t sound like nothing.

“Drop it. It’s fine.” She didn’t want to explain something she was still piecing together herself.

Colton let it go. For now. But the way she was dodging? Something definitely happened.

“Call me if you find anything,” she said.

“Got it. Soon as I know something.”

“And be careful. Andy’s people are looking too. Don’t let them spot you.”

“Understood.” His voice went serious.

Arabella hung up and finally let herself relax. Colton was quick. This should be fine.

She picked up a small trowel and started mapping out where everything would go.

At Horizon Corp, Andy followed Matthew into the elevator.

“Mr. Stewart–our people checked the scene. The friend Dr. Hamilton was with definitely isn’t Tylin.” Andy kept his voice low.

Matthew’s eyes narrowed slightly. Had he really been wrong?

Matthew’s gaze sharpened. “Who?”

“Looks like Ruby was behind the leak. As for who blocked it…” Andy hesitated. “We haven’t been able to trace that yet. Still looking.”

Matthew was quiet for a moment. “Keep at it. But if you hit a wall, don’t force it.”
