Colton carefully sucked in a breath, hoping to be let off the hook
She was only teasing him anyway. Seeing him so on edge, she finally said, “If you run your mouth like that again, rl smack
“Okay, okay–smack me all you want,” Colton agreed, nodding like a bobblehead.
Arabella’s eyes widened, “What’s that supposed to mean?”
“Oh! I mean I won’t talk nonsense ever again,” he promised earnestly.
“Just eat your food.” She wasn’t really upset, so she let it slide.
“Heh heh.” Colton grinned sheepishly and dug into everything on the table.
After lunch, Colton took off, and Arabella headed back to the pharmaceutical lab.
Around dusk, her phone buzzed.
She glanced at the screen and picked up. “Hey, Edward.”
“Busy?” Edward’s voice came through.
“Not really, just about to wrap up here,” Arabella replied.
Edward’s tone was warm and smiling. “How about dinner then?”
Arabella raised an eyebrow. “From the sound of your voice, you’ve got good news.”
“You never miss a thing,” Edward said. “I’ll text you the address. I’ll fill you in when you get here.”
“Alright, see you at the restaurant,” Arabella agreed.
After hanging up, she shot a quick text to Florence. “Mom, I’m having dinner with Edward tonight. Won’t be home for the meal.”
Florence replied right away, “OK, honey. Drive safe. If it runs late, have Ethan pick you up.”
“I’ll be back right after dinner–not late at all. Don’t worry,” Arabella typed back.
“Alright, I’ll wait up for you,” Florence responded.
“Sounds good.”
Arabella tucked her phone away, gathered her things, and left the office.
A short drive later, she pulled into the parking lot of the restaurant Edward had chosen.
“Arabella, over here!” Edward waved her over.
“Hey, Edward,” She walked to the table with a smile and took a seat.
Edward handed her the menu. “Here, pick whatever you’re in the mood for.”
1/3
Arabella browsed the selections, chose a couple of dishes, then glanced up at Edward. “Anything you want to ador
“I’m good with whatever you pick. No need for more,” he said with a relaxed shake of his head.
While they waited for the food, Arabella leaned forward. “So? What’s the good news?”
“That project you handed me last month–it’s taken off. I’ve already gotten calls from firms interested in investing and scale up,” Edward explained, his eyes bright with excitement.
“Now that is good news,” Arabella replied, a faint smile curling her lips.
“Yeah. I’m going to look into their backgrounds. If everything checks out, I’ll move forward with the investment, Edward sa already thinking ahead.
Arabella nodded. “Makes sense. This could be a real game–changer for Macdonald Capital.”
“It’s all thanks to you,” Edward said, his voice sincere. “If you hadn’t stepped in to help, there’s no way the company would’s grown this fast.”
“We’re family. You don’t have to say stuff like that. You’d do the same for me,” Arabella reassured him gently.
Edward looked down, a little embarrassed. “Maybe, but I haven’t really done much for you yet.”
“What are you talking about? You took care of me all the time when I was little. I haven’t forgotten,” Arabella said, her eyebrow lifting slightly. “Remember when I got really sick as a kid? I had a fever for days. You carried me to the ER, and then you were s exhausted you ended up staying in the hospital yourself for a week.”
“That was just because I was worn out–not your fault at all,” Edward insisted, shaking his head.
“Still, if you hadn’t gotten me to the hospital, who knows what would’ve happened,” Arabella said thoughtfully.
Edward frowned. “Don’t talk like that. You’re going to be just fine.”
Arabella smiled softly. “Okay, okay. I’m going to be fine.”
“That’s better,” Edward said, satisfied.
“Hey, Edward,” Arabella shifted the subject, “after what went down last time–when they made you go back home–they haven’t tried to bother you again, have they?”
Edward shook his head. “No.”
He’d been pretty blunt with them last time. They probably knew better than to reach out again.

I started the novel with great interest. In the beginning the storyline was captivating. Then I feel that the more the story advances, the twists were no longer great. Moreover I don't like Arabella s personality, cold, distant......
