“Yes, sir,” Andy replied, feeling a wave of relief wash over him. He turned and hurried out of the room.
Thank goodness Robert showed up when he did–otherwise, Andy would have been in deep trouble today.
Robert shot a glance at Matthew. He genuinely looked furious.
“Your fiancée fly the coop?” Robert remarked, a hint of amusement in his tone.
“I don’t have a fiancée,” Matthew responded, his voice low and tense.
Robert let out a sigh. “You’re right about that. You really don’t.”
“Grandpa, what Arabella and I had was never real. We just played along with your setup so you’d stop pushing me about marriage. Truth is, we had an understanding–nod yes but do whatever we wanted,” Matthew explained.
Robert shrugged lightly. “Well, I guess I’ve got no choice but to believe it now, since she really does seem to be seeing someone else.”
Matthew had nothing to say to that.
Watching him squirm, Robert felt pretty satisfied.
Serves you right, kid. Bet you regret it now, huh?
Hmph. Should’ve listened to your elders. You’ve got no one to blame but yourself.
“Grandpa, did you need something?” Matthew’s expression shifted back to neutral almost instantly.
“I did, but it’s nothing now,” Robert said, eyeing his grandson. “Just get back to your You’re on your own from here on out. Hope your career keeps climbing.”
work.
Watching his grandfather stride away, Matthew’s lip twitched slightly.
“First you’re all worried about me settling down, now you’re basically wishing me a lifetime of bachelorhood,” Matthew muttered with a helpless shake of his head. “Anyone would think you’re the one who got ditched.”
As soon as the words left his mouth, Matthew paused. A complicated look crossed his face.

Once Robert was out of sight, the relaxed expression he’d worn earlier vanished completely.
He’d been putting on an act–just trying to get under Matthew’s skin. That kid had always been the one annoying him first, after all.
But the truth was, Arabella really was the granddaughter–in–law he liked the most. Losing her would be a genuine shame.
He thought it over for a moment, then pulled out his phone and dialed Ryan.
“So, your granddaughter’s seeing someone?” Robert’s voice came through sounding a bit flat.
On the other end, Ryan perked up. “Really? So things worked out between her and Matthew?”
“Not Matthew. Someone else,” Robert clarified.
No way,” Ryan replied, disbelief clear in his tone.
Robert went on, “Someone spotted them together. And my kid’s been moping around here like he lost his purpose. Seems pretty legit to me.”
“How could that be?” Ryan was starting to sound concerned himself. “Hold on, let me check
with Arabella.”
Alright, you do that.”
“I’ll get back to you.”
Robert hung up, let out a long sigh, shook his head, and walked off.
Dusk was settling in as Arabella made her way into the living room at Hamilton Manor.
She spotted Ryan and Lena and offered them a warm smile as she approached. “Grandpa, Grandma.”
“Arabella, you’re home. Come here, sweetheart,” Lena said, waving her over.
abella took a seat on the sofa. Seeing both of them looking healthy and relaxed, she nodded
approval. “You two look wonderful. It’s a relief to see you doing so well.”
treating you okay?” Ryan asked warmly.
bella shook her head. “Not tiring at all.”
Arabella is so capable,” Lena said, her eyes soft with affection.

“Dinner is ready,” the butler announced from the doorway.

Ryan turned toward Arabella. “Come on then, honey. Let’s eat first.”
“Alright,” she agreed, rising to help Lena walk into the dining room.
Once seated, Ryan and Lena kept passing dishes her way and glancing at each other now and then.
Arabella smiled gently. “Grandpa, Grandma, whatever’s on your mind, you can just say it.”
From the way they were hesitating, it was obvious they had something to discuss.
“You noticed, huh?” Ryan said with an awkward chuckle.
“Yeah. Besides, if nothing was going on, I doubt I’d be the only one here for dinner tonight.” Clearly, her grandparents had arranged this dinner without her parents and brothers because they wanted to talk privately.
“Our Arabella really is sharp,” Lena remarked, her smile proud.
Ryan nodded. “Well then, I’ll just come out and ask.”
“Go ahead,” Arabella encouraged.
“So…” Ryan hesitated briefly, then spoke carefully. “Are you seeing anyone? You know, a boyfriend?”
“A boyfriend?” Arabella looked genuinely confused. “No. Why would you think that?”
Ryan still sounded uncertain. “Really? You can tell us if you are.”
“Even with that arrangement between our families and the Stewarts, if your heart’s not in it, we won’t push you. We’ll respect what you want,” Lena added gently.
“Grandpa, Grandma, what are you talking about?” Arabella didn’t know whether to laugh or sigh. “I really am not seeing anyone.”
Ryan visibly relaxed. “So you’re not. I knew it. If you were, you wouldn’t keep it from us.”
“Exactly. Robert must have gotten his wires crossed,” Lena agreed.
Arabella frowned slightly. “Robert?”
What did Robert have to do with any of this?

“Oh, he probably heard something and misunderstood. Let’s just forget about it,” Ryan said, trying to downplay it.
“So Robert heard I was dating someone and asked you about it?” Arabella finally pieced it together. That explained the sudden dinner invitation and all the concerned looks.
“Yes, but don’t worry about it. Robert was just asking out of concern,” Ryan reassured her.
“Okay,” Arabella replied with a nod, not dwelling on it further.

I started the novel with great interest. In the beginning the storyline was captivating. Then I feel that the more the story advances, the twists were no longer great. Moreover I don't like Arabella s personality, cold, distant......
