Matthew saw right through her little game and couldn’t help but feel a mix of amusement and exasperation. “You’ve got quite the confidence,” he remarked dryly.
“Why, thank you,” Arabella replied, her lips curving into a playful smile.
His mouth twitched slightly. Was that even meant as a compliment? he wondered, shaking his head in mild disbelief.
Just then, Andy’s voice came from the front. “We’re here, Mr. Stewart.”
Looking up, Arabella realized they had pulled up in front of a shopping plaza.
“Stay here,” Matthew told her briefly before stepping out of the car and heading toward the entrance, with Andy following closely
behind.
What’s he doing at the mall this late? Arabella thought to herself, puzzled.
But since he’d already gone inside, she settled back to wait. Pulling out her phone, she scrolled through it to kill time. It wasn’t long before she heard footsteps returning. Glancing up, she saw Matthew and Andy walking back to the car.
Once they were both inside, Andy took a box from a shopping bag and passed it over. Matthew accepted it and flipped the lid open, revealing a pair of women’s flats inside.
“What’s this for?” Arabella asked, surprised.
“If your feet are sore, you shouldn’t keep wearing heels,” Matthew said matter–of–factly. “Try these on instead.”
“These are… for me?” She was genuinely taken aback. He’d gone all the way into the mall just to buy her shoes–all because she’d mentioned her feet hurt?
Matthew didn’t respond, simply handing the box to her.
“Thank you,” she said, accepting it.
She checked the size and raised an eyebrow almost imperceptibly. They were exactly her size. He’s pretty observant. But how does he know?
“Thanks again, Mr. Stewart,” she added, her tone warmer and more sincere this time.
“Don’t mention it.” As he spoke, Matthew took the heels she’d just slipped off and placed them neatly back into the box.
“Mr. Stewart, I can do that-” Arabella reached out instinctively, her hand brushing against his.
His hand was large and firm, cool to the touch, with a slightly rough texture that felt unexpectedly grounding. For a moment, her heart fluttered unaccountably.
Feeling her cheeks grow warm, she quickly pulled her hand back and mumbled, “I mean, I can put them away myself.
Matthew finished placing the shoebox into the bag and set it aside. “Try the shoes on,” he said, his voice calm.
“Okay,” she replied, slipping her feet into the flats he’d bought.

They fit perfectly. “They’re just right. Thank you, Mr. Stewart,” she said, a soft note of appreciation in her voice.
Matthew gave a slight nod. “Good.”

Looking down, she noticed the style was one she’d have chosen herself–simple, versatile, and comfortable. A faint warmth spread
hrough her chest as she glanced at him, a subtle smile touching her eyes.
For the first time, it occurred to her that maybe Matthew wasn’t as aloof as he seemed.
Across from her, Matthew watched as she adjusted the shoes, a faint, unreadable gleam passing through his eyes. They suited her
well.
A short while later, the car came to a stop.
‘Dr. Hamilton, we’re here,” Andy announced.
Arabella looked out and saw they were outside her home. “Oh, right,” she said.
She opened the door and stepped out, then turned to wave at Matthew through the window. “Thanks again for the ride, Mr. Stewart.”
Matthew returned a small nod. “Anytime.”
With that, Arabella turned and walked toward the villa.
Inside, Florence heard a car outside and glanced out the window. Seeing Arabella, she smiled. “Arabella’s back!”
“Hey Dad, Mom,” Arabella greeted as she walked into the living room.
“That car just drove off–didn’t Ethan come back with you?” Jonathan asked, looking toward the door.
Arabella set her bag down and took a seat. “Ethan’s still out. Mr. Stewart gave me a lift home.”
“Matthew did?” Jonathan sounded a little surprised. “Why didn’t you invite him in for a bit?”
“It was late, and he looked tired after the event, so I didn’t want to keep him,” she explained.
Florence’s eyes fell on the shopping bag Arabella had brought in. “I thought you were at a party. Did you go shopping after?”
“Oh, no–my feet were hurting on the way back, so Mr. Stewart–I mean, I stopped and picked these up,” she said, catching herself just in time.

I started the novel with great interest. In the beginning the storyline was captivating. Then I feel that the more the story advances, the twists were no longer great. Moreover I don't like Arabella s personality, cold, distant......
