Arabella shrugged lightly. “No clue.”
“You’re not even curious what they found?” Brielle asked, a little taken aback.
“Should I be?” Arabella looked back at her, genuinely puzzled.

“Of course! They came after you. I want to see them get what’s coming to them,” Brielle shot back, irritation clear in her voice.
Lucas glanced up sharply. “What are you talking about? Who came after you?”
The idea that someone had messed with her without him knowing instantly put him on edge.
“It’s handled. The police are on it,” Arabella said, clearly not wanting to rehash the details. “Which is exactly why I want to know the outcome!” Brielle insisted immediately.
“Yeah, tell us,” Lucas pressed, his tone concerned. “What

She let out a soft sigh. “It’s not going to be a big deal, seriously.”
“Why not?” they said in unison.
“The Johnstons,” Arabella explained matter–of–factly. “They’ll never let anything serious happen to Dylan. They’ll figure out a way to smooth things over.”
“But there’s actual evidence this time!” Brielle protested. Could they really weasel out of it?
A faint, knowing smile touched Arabella’s lips. “There’s always a loophole.”
“No way. I’m having my dad put someone on it. I’m not letting them walk away clean,” Brielle declared, already pulling out her phone.
Arabella reached over and gently patted Brielle’s hand. “Let it go. It’s not worth the energy.”
“I don’t want to,” Brielle muttered stubbornly, already dialing Caleb.
Arabella saw there was no stopping her, so she didn’t try further.
Lucas studied Arabella closely. “What really happened?
Nothing major. There was an incident at the dinner last night, and a few people got taken in by the police,” she summarized, leaving out the specifics.
It wasn’t that she was being overly forgiving. She knew the Johnstons–and Freya–all too well. Having Dylan and Harper sit in a cell for a couple of days and pay a fine felt… insignificant.

The moment she recognized him at the dinner, it clicked: Calvin and Freya had wanted her gone for a while, and this wasn’t their first attempt.
Did they really think she’d just let that slide?
Lucas watched her thoughtfully, seeming to read the determination behind her calm expression. A small smile crept onto his face, and he gave a slight nod. “If you need backup, just say the word.”
Arabella glanced at him, surprised. Lucas simply replied, “I trust your judgment.”
No further explanation was needed. They exchanged a quiet, understanding look.
Just then, Brielle finished her call and caught them sharing that silent moment.
“Ugh,” she groaned under her breath, shaking her head. “What a waste. My incredible Arabella… stuck with Mr. Grumpy over here.”
“Hmm?” Arabella turned toward her.
Brielle instantly brightened. “Oh, nothing! Just said my dad’s going to look into it.”
Well, if Arabella was into him, she wasn’t going to interfere.
After they finished lunch, Lucas offered, “I’ll drive you back.”
“No need. I want to stop by the mall first–not heading back to the office yet,” Arabella said.
“What are you getting? I’ll come with you,” Lucas offered quickly. Any extra time with her was a win in his book.
Brielle rolled her eyes. “What do you know about shopping, tough guy? Arabella’s the expert here.”
“Your car’s waiting,” Lucas replied smoothly, already guiding Brielle toward her parked sedan. He tapped the roof. “You can head out.”
The driver started the engine. Brielle, flustered, yelled, “Wait! Stop the car!”
The car halted. The driver glanced back. “Everything alright,/Miss?“.
Brielle looked out just in time to see Lucas opening his passenger door for Arabella.
“You jerk! Just you wait!” she hollered, fuming.
Lucas just waved casually, then pulled smoothly out of the parking spot.
Brielle slumped back in her seat, cheeks flushed. “Ugh, so petty.”
“Miss, shall we…?” the driver ventured carefully.

“Home!” Brielle snapped, crossing her arms. “Next time I see him… hmph!”
Meanwhile, in Lucas‘ car, Arabella said gently, “She’s really not that bad. You could try being nicer”

I started the novel with great interest. In the beginning the storyline was captivating. Then I feel that the more the story advances, the twists were no longer great. Moreover I don't like Arabella s personality, cold, distant......
