“You’re right. When you visited Robert the other day, I could see how much he liked you. For something as serious as calling off an engagement, if he doesn’t approve, Matthew probably can’t go through with it, can he?”
“Why don’t you spend more time with Robert yourself?” Ruby suddenly had an idea and offered Naomi some advice.
Naomi finally looked up at Ruby and asked uncertainly, “Will that really work? Maybe Matthew has already convinced him. Otherwise, why would he go straight to my grandfather to talk about ending it?”
“Not necessarily. You know Matthew–he doesn’t always tell others what he’s planning. Maybe Arabella is the one pushing him to break it off, and Robert doesn’t even know.” Ruby looked at Naomi pointedly as she laid out her theory.
“That can’t be. From what I heard today, it sounds like Arabella is treating Robert. And Matthew isn’t the type to be easily manipulated.” Naomi frowned. She knew Matthew well and didn’t believe he was as suggestible as Ruby implied.
Ruby sighed helplessly. “Naomi, you have no idea how calculating some social climbers can be. A girl like Arabella, coming from a modest background, will do anything to become Mrs. Stewart.
“I bet treating Robert is just her way of getting close to Matthew!” Ruby’s eyes held clear disdain for Arabella.
Naomi felt a bit lost after hearing this. Was it really possible?
If so, Arabella was truly manipulative. Matthew would be in real danger if he got involved with someone like that!
“Naomi, how about this? Go see Robert right now. Gauge whether he knows about Matthew wanting to end the engagement. Then you’ll know what’s really going on,” Ruby suggested shrewdly.
After considering it, Naomi realized this might be her only move for now.
She couldn’t back down. If Arabella hadn’t appeared, Matthew wouldn’t be trying to call it off.
She had to make Matthew see Arabella for who she really was.
More importantly, she had to make him fall for her…
“Okay, I’ll go to Stewart Manor right away,” Naomi said, preparing to leave.

“Naomi, do you really want to show up at the Stewarts with your face all tear–stained?
“Don’t rush. Let me freshen up your makeup first–make you look beautiful. Then I’ll go with you, Ruby said with a gentle smile, guiding her toward the vanity.
“Ruby, I’m so glad you’re here. I already feel a little better,” Naomi said, her eyes grateful.
Ruby smiled warmly. “Of course. We’re sisters. Besides your mom, I care about you the most.”
Naomi looked at Ruby’s reflection in the mirror and managed a faint smile.
“There, all set. What do you think?” Ruby had carefully touched up her makeup and styled her hair.
“It looks good.”
“Then let’s go,” Ruby said, linking arms with Naomi as they headed out.
Ruby drove, and soon they arrived at Stewart Manor.
The butler recognized Naomi and assumed she was there to see Robert. “Ms. Hamilton, here to visit Mr. Stewart? I’m afraid he isn’t home.”
“Where is he, then?” Naomi asked, puzzled.
“Mr. Stewart has been admitted to the hospital for observation and recovery. If you’d like to see him, you may visit him there,” the butler informed her politely.
“The hospital? Alright, thank you,” Naomi replice, resigned. She had no choice but to turn and drive with Ruby to the hospital.
“Naomi, why would Robert be in the hospital?” Ruby asked, looking genuinely confused.
“The butler said for recovery. Maybe he’s just there for some routine monitoring. Let’s just go,” Naomi said, not overly concerned.
After all, Ryan went for regular check–ups too.
Following the address the butler provided, Naomi and Ruby soon found Robert’s private
suite.
Naomi knocked softly before pushing the door open.
