True Heiress Returns to Her Unemployed Rich Family (Arabella) novel Chapter 559

"Fingers crossed," Arabella said with a smile.

Brielle lifted her chin, a proud look on her face. "That's not me crossing my fingers—that's just you being genuinely good, Arabella."

"You and that smooth talk of yours," Arabella teased back.

"Buttering people up won't make their piloting skills magically transfer to you. You actually have to put in the practice yourself," Lucas cut in, sounding thoroughly unimpressed.

"Well, that depends on whether the instructor's any good. So you'd better bring your A-game," Brielle shot back, shrugging with a hint of smugness.

"What's that got to do with me?" Lucas complained.

Brielle gave a triumphant smile. "I already submitted the request for you to be my primary flight instructor. And guess what? It got approved."

"Who said I wanted to teach you? I refuse!" Lucas snapped.

Deliberately shaking her head just to annoy him, Brielle replied, "Too late. Your refusal doesn't count now."

"Hmph. In that case, don't expect to ever get your pilot's license," Lucas retorted. Someone this difficult—even he couldn't teach her.

"Fine by me," Brielle said with another shrug. "I'll just tell everyone it's because you're a terrible instructor."

If he didn't care, neither would she.

"It's because you're a slow learner, not because I can't teach. Don't try to drag me down with you."

Watching the two of them go at it again, Arabella didn't know whether to laugh or sigh.

"Alright, you two. If this is how you act now, your training sessions are going to be quite the spectacle," she said, trying to calm things down.

Brielle linked her arm through Arabella's. "If I don't get my license, it'll be because he isn't cut out to teach."

"Who isn't cut out to teach?" Lucas fired back.

"Somebody knows exactly who!" Brielle retorted without missing a beat.

Lucas gritted his teeth, heat rising in his tone. "Just you wait. I'll prove what I'm made of sooner or later."

"Pfft, sure," Brielle scoffed, completely unbothered.

Arabella could only shake her head helplessly.

As they were about to leave, a couple of students walking past were deep in conversation.

"Hey, did you see the news?"

"Of course. It's everywhere."

"I seriously didn't see that coming. I thought they called off the engagement?"

"What engagement? There was never any official engagement between Matthew and Naomi."

"Wait, really? What's the story then? Tell me."

"Okay, so from what I heard..."

Before they could finish, Brielle quickly stepped over and grabbed one of them by the arm. "What did you just say?"

"You haven't heard? It's all over social media. Naomi spent the night at Stewart Manor last night..."

For a second, it felt like Brielle's head had gone blank. She heard the words, but they didn't quite sink in.
