When Arabella saw Edward's name on her phone screen, she answered. "Hey, Edward."
"Are you at the hospital?" Edward's voice was quiet and steady.
"Yeah. Have you guys arrived yet?"
Edward seemed to let out a low breath. "So you already know."
"I had my suspicions," she replied. She didn't have all the details yet, but judging by Edward's tone, she figured she wasn't far off.
"Don't worry. I've got your back," Edward said, trying to sound reassuring.
Arabella's lips lifted slightly. "Edward, there's nothing I'm afraid of."
"Good," Edward replied, sounding relieved. "We just pulled into the hospital parking lot. We're heading up to the room now."
"Alright, I'll meet you there," Arabella said.
She hung up and rose from her chair. "I'm going down to the patient's room."
"You're not planning to treat Harper, are you?" Otherwise, why would Edward be showing up now?
He thought he finally understood why Arabella had called the family member "a handful".
"If you're not in a hurry, wait for me. We can grab lunch together—I won't be long," Arabella said before hurrying out of the office.
Lucas wasn't going anywhere. To be honest, he was a little concerned, so he quietly followed her toward the room, just in case things got out of hand and he needed to step in.
When Arabella arrived, Edward and Calvin were already waiting outside Harper's room.
"Long time no see," Arabella said to Calvin, her tone layered with unspoken meaning.
Her steady gaze made Calvin shift uncomfortably. He knew exactly what she was referring to.
"What happened at the gala is water under the bridge. No need to bring it up again," Calvin said, deliberately twisting her words.
He knew she meant the incident at the hospital back then, but admitting it was out of the question.
Arabella didn't bother arguing. She glanced toward Harper's room and said, "Now that everyone's here, let's get started."
"Edward's here now, so you better watch yourself. If anything happens to Harper, you won't get off easy," Freya warned, her voice sharp.
"Then why don't you let my brother treat her?" Arabella shrugged. She hadn't been eager to do this in the first place.
Did they really think just because Edward was here, they could pressure her into it?
"You—" Freya choked back her words, frustration flashing in her eyes.
"Mom, if you don't trust Arabella, why did you insist on bringing her in?" Edward said, unable to hide his irritation.
Freya shot him a glare. "Do you still remember I'm your mother?"
"What does that have to do with Harper's treatment?" Edward replied, sounding weary.
