True Heiress Returns to Her Unemployed Rich Family (Arabella) novel Chapter 667

Naomi instantly feigned a look of panic and stammered, "Oh... so that's what they told you?

"Great, now I've said too much." She sounded genuinely distressed.

"Was everything you said true?" Robert asked, his brow furrowing.

Naomi rushed to apologize and explain, "Mr. Stewart, please don't be upset with Matthew. He probably just didn't want you to worry."

"To be honest, Arabella never should've gotten mixed up with those kinds of people. How did she even come across such dangerous characters?" Naomi shook her head, a disappointed expression on her face.

"She didn't know them. And she was the victim." Matthew's cold voice cut in sharply.

Naomi looked up, startled. "Matthew, you're back?"

"Don't ever come to my house again." Without so much as glancing her way, Matthew turned to Charles and added, "From now on, don't let her in."

Naomi panicked. She jumped to her feet. "Matthew, please let me explain. I didn't mean it that way. I'm just really worried about Arabella. I was afraid she might be getting involved with the wrong crowd, that there could be danger around her."

Matthew's eyes darkened even more. "Don't play games with me. Out of respect for the Hamiltons, leave now and you might still keep some dignity."

"Mr. Stewart..." Naomi's eyes welled up with tears. "I truly was concerned about Arabella.

"And I honestly didn't realize they hadn't told you. I never would've brought it up in front of you if I'd known." Naomi pleaded desperately, hoping Robert would step in on her behalf.

But Robert simply waved a hand. "You said what you said. It's fine—I don't blame you."

Then he turned to Matthew. "Arabella was in danger, and you went to help her. That injury is from saving her, isn't it?"

"Yes." There was no point hiding it now.

"Good. Well done." Robert nodded approvingly.

"Mr. Stewart!" Naomi's jaw nearly dropped.

What was going on? Didn't Robert care about Matthew more than anyone?

Matthew got hurt because of Arabella. How could he not be upset at all—even sounding proud?

"A man has to take responsibility. No matter what, you should protect her. Even if you get hurt, even if it risks your life, you don't hesitate." Robert gave a firm nod, fully endorsing what Matthew had done.

Matthew was a bit surprised too. Then he replied flatly, "See? I knew it. I'm not really his grandson."

He was clearly teasing. Robert chuckled and said, "Don't get jealous. I'm doing this for your own good. A girl like that—if you don't marry her and bring her home, you'll be the one regretting it."

Hearing his grandfather's words, Matthew gave a slight nod. "I'll do my best."

"Alright." Robert changed the subject. "What brought you back?"

"Need to grab a document." Matthew headed upstairs.

"Matthew..." Naomi tried calling after him, but then Matthew added without looking back, "By the time I come down, I expect you to be gone."

His tone was calm, but it felt like a sharp knife twisting in her chest. It hurt—really hurt.
