Hearing his question, Florence happily went to retrieve the painting Arabella had given her. “Look, this is my gift from her,” she said, her eyes warm with contentment.

When Ethan unrolled it, his expression immediately brightened. “This is stunning–the detail in the phoenix is incredible.

“It looks like a seriously valuable piece,” he added, instinctively assessing it.

“Everything comes down to money with you. You have no sense of artistic appreciation,” Frank remarked, taking the painting from his hands.

Ethan rolled his eyes, annoyed. “I did compliment it, didn’t I?”

“That was your idea of a compliment?” Frank shot back dismissively.

Ethan sighed inwardly. Arguing with Frank was pointless–he never won these exchanges.

“Mom, where would you like to hang it? The formal living room, or somewhere more private?” Frank asked, turning to Florence for her preference.

Florence thought for a moment. “What do

think?”

She valued his opinion.

“I believe it should be displayed in the main living room. A piece this striking deserves to be seen. It would elevate the entire space as soon as anyone enters,” Frank offered thoughtfully.

“That’s true,” Florence agreed with a nod.

“Mom, I think the sunroom would be nicer,” Naomi suggested. “You spend so much time there reading and doing yoga. Having it nearby would mean you could enjoy it every day.”

She wasn’t keen on seeing the painting front–and–center every time she passed through the

main room.

Hearing Naomi’s point, Florence hesitated. That also made sense–now she felt torn.

Noticing her indecision, Ethan spoke up, “I’m with Frank. A piece this special should be shared. Hang it where everyone can appreciate it. Joy’s better multiplied, right?”

Florence looked at Ethan and finally decided. “You’re right. This painting should be for all of us to enjoy. It’s settled–it’ll go in the main living room.”

She turned to a staff member. “Please have this hung in the most prominent spot, where everyone can see it.”

“Right away, Mrs. Hamilton,” the attendant replied, carefully taking the painting to mount it as instructed.

Watching the painting take its place on the wall, Florence smiled, satisfied.

Upstairs, Arabella had been napping in her room when her phone rang, stirring her awake.

How annoying–who’s calling now?

She checked the screen and was surprised to see Edward’s name. Her calm mood shifted slightly. Was his condition worse?

She answered immediately. “Edward? Is everything okay?”

“Arabella… are you settling in alright over there?” Edward’s voice sounded frail but gentle.

Since Arabella had left the Macdonald household, he’d worried constantly. Freya had even hidden his phone to cut off contact and stop him from helping her. It had taken him considerable effort to find it and make this call.

Hearing it was just his concern, Arabella relaxed. “I’m doing well, really. Please don’t worry about me. How are you? Are you feeling any better?”

“I’m managing. You must be running low on funds, though–give me your account number. I’ll transfer some to you,” Edward insisted. Even though she said she was fine, he feared she was just sparing his feelings.

“Really, I’m okay. I have more allowance here than I ever did before. Just focus on getting better.

“Speaking of which, are you almost out of your medication? I’ll pick up a refill and come see you soon,” Arabella added, realizing she missed him.

Edward’s voice lifted with hope. “Really? That would be… wonderful. Yes, my medication is running low.”

Hearing how much he wanted to see her, Arabella promised, “I’ll be there soon.”

“I’ll be waiting,” Edward replied before ending the call.
