At six o'clock, Nathaniel was running late. Bell, however, didn't bother to call and hurry him. Instead, she just stood by the front door, her gaze fixed on the end of the road, until, after twenty minutes, she finally spotted Nathaniel's car in the distance.
Nathaniel could see Bell from afar, standing there like a loyal pup waiting for its owner to come home.
For some reason, the gloom that had been shadowing his mood lifted instantly.
When the driver pulled to a stop, Nathaniel stepped out to be greeted by Bell's bright smile. That kind of smile could effortlessly brighten up anyone's day.
Deep down, Nathaniel was actually quite curious about Bell. Didn't she hold grudges?
You could say she was forgiving and didn't hold grudges—put harshly, she had a memory like a sieve when it came to slights.
"Mr. Krueger, you're back," she said, even though it was plain to see he had returned.
Still, he just grunted an acknowledgment in response.
Bell kept a careful distance, close enough to touch, yet their clothes never brushed against each other.
"I've made breakfast." Her beautiful eyes were fixed on Nathaniel, shining with the expectation of praise.
Before he even got a good look, the aroma hit him, awakening his taste buds. The breakfast spread on the table was fit for a king, each dish perfect in flavor and presentation.
After breakfast, Bell collected the dishes to wash. With nothing else on his agenda, Nathaniel took her to legally change her name.
From Bell to Izabella. All her records online were adjusted accordingly with a little bit of networking.
Despite the name change, Nathaniel stuck with 'Bell.' It was habit, and calling her by a deceased person's name felt somewhat ominous.
Wasn't the name change pointless then?
Nathaniel had a reasonable explanation: in the entertainment industry, it was common to adopt a stage name.
A small-budget campus drama had taken notice of Bell's looks and invited her to audition.
Bell had never acted before. Despite being signed with a talent agency for some time without any gigs, the notification of a web series opportunity filled her with both excitement and fear—worried she might not perform well.
