Gathering her thoughts, she dialed Coy.
Coy hesitated when he saw the caller ID, but eventually answered. "Ms. Hawkins."
"Is Thorne at the office?"
Coy paused. "I'm sorry, I'm not at liberty to say."
Vesta knew immediately that meant he was there.
If he wasn't, Coy would have just told her.
"I understand," she said. "Thank you."
Hanging up, she grabbed her car keys and headed out. It didn't take her long to pull up to The Henderson Group headquarters.
She stared up at the towering entrance, sitting in her car for a few moments. Slipping on a face mask, she finally stepped out.
The lobby was relatively empty. Despite the mask obscuring her features, the receptionist recognized her the second she walked through the doors.
In the past, she had never felt the need to hide her face here.
They all knew she was wearing it now because she was afraid of being recognized.
Seeing that she was still allowed to enter the building without an appointment, Vesta let out a quiet sigh of relief.
Reaching Thorne's executive floor, she pulled off the mask and knocked on his office door.
No answer.
She turned the handle. Before she could react, Josh's voice called out from behind her. "Ms. Hawkins?"
"Yes," Vesta replied evenly. "Where is Thorne?"
"Mr. Henderson had an urgent matter. He just left."
Vesta frowned. "Left? When?"
"Ten minutes ago."
