"Is she truly just your assistant? Just the heiress to Winthrop Global?"

Julian was rapidly losing the last shreds of his patience. "What else would she be? What kind of insane conspiracy are you brewing?"

You know exactly what she is to you.

Elara kept the thought to herself, opting for a tactical strike instead. "Then how come I've never seen you act this passionately determined to invite any of your other assistants?"

"I vividly remember you having a fairly close female friend, who also happens to be an heiress to some massive conglomerate... Yet, weirdly enough, you didn't move heaven and earth to invite her."

"Elara! Stop being so damn unreasonable!"

"Which part of what I said was wrong?"

Julian gritted his teeth.

He completely gave up on trying to win a screaming match with her.

He stared at Elara in absolute shock, unable to comprehend how she had turned into such an aggressive, illogical woman.

"You..."

Julian studied her fiercely stubborn face, his tone dripping with sheer exhaustion. "How did you turn into someone like this?"

"Someone like what?"

Elara met his gaze with a humorless laugh. "I have been exactly the same since the day we met over a decade ago. I haven't changed one bit."

"You can't just suddenly decide you don't like me anymore and then blame me for 'changing', can you?"

Julian was silent.

Julian suddenly felt like an absolute idiot for trying to argue with a seasoned attorney.

Elara could argue a corpse out of a coffin. Thinking he could convince her or gain the upper hand in a debate was pure fantasy.

"Always twisting the truth... Whatever. Think what you want."

Julian waved his hand in fierce irritation, snatching a fresh change of clothes before heading toward the bathroom. "I have work to finish up later. Just go to sleep."

He said it as if he had actually been coming to bed with her on time these past few days.

The next morning.

By the time Julian woke up, Melody had already washed up, her hair styled perfectly, and was heading downstairs with Elara.

Today's breakfast was Savory Pulled-Pork Sliders—a special request from Melody, cooked entirely from scratch by Jocelyn.

Right now, Elara and Jocelyn were in the kitchen with Melody, working together to slice the sliders and pack in the meat.

Melody was absolutely loving the hands-on cooking process, bombarding them with non-stop questions as she worked.

Once the sliders were ready, they were placed in little sandwich wrappers and arranged beautifully in a small woven basket, creating a picture-perfect dining experience.

Julian followed the lively chatter to the kitchen doorway. He was just about to greet Melody when he remembered his firm resolution from the night before. He swallowed his words, turned around, and took a seat at the dining table, opting to wait for Melody to come and bid him good morning first.

When he took the initiative to be nice, Melody just threw bratty tantrums at him without an ounce of manners.

It was high time he corrected her terrible habits.

What kind of father constantly let his daughter treat him like garbage, only to turn around and desperately beg for her affection?
