"...with Julian and his assistant."
Sebastian stole a glance at the rearview mirror, his gaze colliding straight with Elara's. This time, he didn't beat around the bush. "As long as you need it, I can help you with absolutely anything."
Elara froze for a second. She glanced at Melody, who was busy organizing her gifts, and offered a bittersweet smile. "Thanks, Sebastian."
Sebastian felt his frustration spike even higher. Was she thanking him for offering to help, or thanking him but subtly telling him to mind his own business?
Elara was quietly analyzing him as well.
She knew Sebastian didn't have the warmest relationship with Julian or Meredith Beckett, but at the end of the day, they were still his grandfather's wife and his grandfather's son. They were his actual flesh and blood.
Even if he still harbored some lingering gratitude for the kindness she had shown him years ago, there was no way he would openly go to war against his own family and put his grandfather in such an agonizing position just for her sake.
When Sebastian first brought up the issue, she had briefly wondered if he might be the anonymous 'Justice Seeker.' But the moment that thought crossed her mind, she immediately shut it down.
Given Sebastian's fiercely direct personality, if he had genuinely dug up all that dirt on Julian to help her, he would have just slapped the evidence on the table in front of her like he was doing right now. He would never resort to sneaking around and mailing anonymous packages like some cloaked vigilante.
She was probably just overthinking it.
Though, honestly, she still couldn't wrap her head around why Sebastian was being so incredibly generous, actively choosing to support her over his own uncle.
Regardless of his motives, Sebastian's offer was a solid reminder. If push came to shove, she could definitely consider using his resources to secure more evidence.
Meanwhile, to make Elara's morning commute easier, Julian had specifically reassigned Lester to her for the day.
Thanks to Sebastian unexpectedly playing chauffeur, Lester got off the clock early. Once he drove the empty car back to corporate headquarters, he immediately headed upstairs to report to Julian.
"What did you just say?"
Julian froze in his chair. "Sebastian picked up Elara and Melody?"
Lester looked entirely bewildered. "Did you not know, sir?"
Julian was rendered completely speechless.
If he had known, he wouldn't be asking the question right now.
Vivian bit her bottom lip hard, shooting him a beautifully manufactured glare of faux-anger. "You're doing this on purpose!"
"My apologies."
Julian let out a low, seductive laugh. "I just can't bear the thought of parting with you so soon..."
"Come here. Let me hold you. I need to recharge."
He reached his hand out across the desk. Vivian placed her hand in his, letting him pull her around the edge of the mahogany desk as she practically threw herself into his arms.
But they were both too eager. Before Vivian could fully clear the corner of the desk, Julian's forceful pull sent her leg crashing violently against the heavy wood.
It was the exact same leg where her knee was currently fractured.
"Ah! My knee!"
Vivian cried out in pain, her face draining of color instantly as tears streamed down her cheeks.
