Vivian loved Julian, and she only wanted Julian.

She knew the current Julian loved her just as fiercely.

At the same time, she knew Julian and his mother had other arrangements regarding Elara, which was why the divorce had been repeatedly delayed until now.

Julian's original intention was to ensure she didn't feel wronged. He wanted to give her the best possible outcome so the Winthrop family would approve of their relationship.

Vivian understood his arrangements and decisions.

But she couldn't wait any longer.

Time was a strange thing.

Julian had remained deeply in love with Elara for ten long years.

Yet he had also managed to shift his affections and fall madly in love with Vivian in just six short months.

Vivian didn't doubt Julian's current love for her, and she was confident she could keep him hooked.

But she didn't dare gamble on it.

She understood all too well the terrifying nature of the monster called "Time."

Until she and Julian were officially locked down and married, any number of variables could arise.

Only when Julian actually finalized the divorce and completely belonged to her would she feel at ease.

She respected and supported Julian's plans, but that didn't mean she was going to sit back and do nothing.

She had sent Elara ambiguous text messages, dropping blatant and subtle hints about her relationship with Julian, all in an attempt to find a new vulnerability in Elara.

All of it led to nothing.

At first, Vivian thought Elara was genuinely dense. Later, she assumed Elara was just arrogantly confident.

It wasn't until recently, when her attempts to attend Melody's birthday party were repeatedly shut down by Elara, that she realized the truth.

Even when the shrewd Meredith—her future mother-in-law—personally intervened, Elara effortlessly deflected the request, leaving both mother and son unable to find a single flaw in her logic.

Vivian then suddenly understood: Elara was neither as dense nor as ignorantly arrogant as they had assumed.

How could a woman who earned the title of a top-tier attorney after just a couple of years of practice suddenly lose her wits just because she got married and had a child?

Meeting Julian's heartbroken, remorseful gaze, Vivian guiltily averted her eyes, then quickly looked back with a pitiful expression. "I'm sorry."

She carefully grabbed the hem of his shirt. "I didn't mean to hide it from you."

At first, Vivian had genuinely been in too much pain to speak.

But seeing how panicked and anxious Julian became, she decided to play along, using it as an excuse to try and keep him there.

Fortunately, it worked.

Julian obviously knew she hadn't done it on purpose, but he still couldn't shake his concern.

If he hadn't taken her to the hospital in time and delayed her treatment, what would have happened to her knee?

He shuddered to think what would have occurred if he had actually listened to her, applied a basic bandage, and left her alone. How agonizing would it have been for her to endure the pain of a bone fracture by herself?

Just the thought sent chills down his spine, breaking him out in a cold sweat.

Seeing him stay silent, Vivian observed him carefully for a moment before leaning in to press a coquettish kiss to his lips. "Julian..."

Julian was determined to make her understand how terrified and worried he'd been. He let her kiss him but refused to kiss back.
