Knowing the answer to the question she had asked made that feeling infinitely stronger.
Elara stared at him for a long time, until Julian grew irritated under her gaze and shot her a sidelong glance. "Do you have any other questions?"
Shouldn't you know the answer to that better than anyone?
Elara uncurled her clenched fist, using every ounce of her strength to force down the surge of fury welling up inside her. She repeatedly told herself to endure, that she couldn't ruin everything because of a moment of impulsive rage!
As she reasoned with herself, she thought of the 10% shares she was about to secure through the Corporate Registry Filing, the Discovery Subpoena she needed to file with her divorce petition, and all the subsequent lawsuits she would bring against them...
A little impatience ruins a great plan!
"You used to say it."
Elara took a deep breath, forcing herself to look out the window as she complained in a stifled, aggrieved tone, "You used to say that when you drive, I am the only one allowed to sit in your passenger seat."
Acting the part of a jealous, temperamental "bitter housewife," she sniffled, tears springing up on command. Between sobs, she wept, "Did you forget your promise to me?"
"..."
Julian was predictably annoyed by her crying. Even in her peripheral vision, she could clearly see the bulging veins on his forehead, signaling just how impatient and frustrated he was.
But Elara wasn't finished. "Is it because I'm just a stay-at-home mom who never steps foot outside the house anymore? Have I lost the right to sit in your passenger seat?"
"Or do you already think I'm an embarrassment, so you conveniently forgot your promise on purpose?"
"That's not what I meant!"
Julian had completely forgotten about that promise, and he wasn't even sure if he had ever actually said it. But given Elara's current state, he couldn't just admit he didn't remember. He had to bite the bullet and offer a vague defense.
"The situation was unique that day. She was a major client, and she wanted to sit in the front. I couldn't exactly just tell her, 'That seat is for my wife, go sit in the back,' could I?"
