Julian listened to the sudden joy in her voice, a wave of helplessness and guilt washing over him.

He was the reason Vivian felt so insecure.

If he had just handled the situation better, she wouldn't have to worry or feel this agonizing uncertainty.

"Don't worry,"

Julian said, his voice softening with sincere patience. "I won't make you wait much longer."

Vivian paused, a soft sob escaping her lips. "Okay."

"I believe you!"

Mindful of the time, Julian comforted her a bit more before ending the call.

When he stepped out of the shower, Elara was already back.

Melody was with her.

The little girl had just bathed and was wide awake, following Elara into the master bedroom to wait while her mother took a shower.

The moment Julian saw Melody, his immediate thought was pure relief—thank god he hung up in time. If Melody had caught him on the phone, she would have thrown another fit.

Grabbing a towel, Julian vigorously dried his hair, tossed it aside, and looked at Elara. "You should go shower too."

"Alright,"

Elara replied, gathering her clean clothes. "Keep Melody company for a bit."

Julian nodded and walked straight toward Melody. He was about to sit next to her, but stopped halfway and decided to ask first. "Can I sit next to you?"

Melody, who was clutching a glass of warm milk and taking tiny sips, looked up. She had a little white milk mustache, her wide eyes staring back at him with an adorable, innocent expression.

Julian's heart melted. Unable to resist, he softened his voice even more and repeated, "Melody, I'd like to sit next to you. Is that okay?"

Melody seemed to finally process the question. Her eyes darted around for a second before she gave a delayed, slow nod.

With careful, measured movements, Julian sat down beside his daughter.

The sofa dipped slightly beneath his weight, causing Melody to sway.

Afraid she might tip over, Julian quickly reached out to steady her.

A split second later, he felt her tiny body instantly stiffen.
