After reading it, she didn't need to waste another brain cell guessing; the answers were written in plain sight.
Julian wanted to win one of those jewels at the auction for Vivian.
Or perhaps, more than one.
Elara couldn't help but find it amusing.
Just because she had bought some gold jewelry during the day, he was instantly desperate to overcompensate for Vivian?
Elara checked the time and location of the auction, taking a screenshot for her records.
Right at that moment, Julian stepped out of the bathroom.
He rubbed his damp hair with a towel in one hand, while his other hand tapped furiously on his phone. His expression was grim, as if a disaster had struck.
Elara casually closed the browser and asked, "What's wrong?"
Julian looked up, feigning distress. "Company issues."
Playing along, Elara pretended not to see through his excuse. "Is it serious? It's past ten; why are you still working?"
"Overseas business," Julian replied vaguely. "Time zones."
Tossing the towel aside, he grabbed the hairdryer. Once his hair was dry, he headed straight for the walk-in closet.
Elara injected just the right amount of displeasure into her voice, asking anxiously, "Are you going out again?"
"Yeah, my colleagues are waiting for me at the office. I need to head over."
Julian's voice drifted from the closet, muffled as he pulled a sweater over his head.
"Didn't you just say the clients were overseas?"
Committing fully to the act, Elara got out of bed and followed him to the closet. "Can't you just communicate online? Or do a video call?"
"We could, but there are internal arrangements I need to confirm in person."
Julian finished dressing, grabbed his heavy coat, and walked straight out. "I don't know when I'll be back. Go to sleep."
"You're staying out all night again!"
Elara ramped up her fake outrage, chasing after him to grab his arm. "Melody will be heartbroken if she finds out..."
