"I'll scan and email the digital files to you when I get home," Elara said, taking the documents.

Having secured the evidence that morning without a spare second to sort through it, she had rushed straight to Ms. Thorne. She'd have to organize the digital files later.

"Sounds good," Gillian agreed.

The attorney didn't waste time on pleasantries, simply nodding before diving straight into the critical details they needed to watch out for post-filing.

Their intense discussion lasted until eleven in the morning, ending only when they had exhausted every angle.

Gillian glanced at the menu on her desk and looked up at Elara. "There's an excellent fusion place nearby. Care to grab lunch?"

Elara politely declined. "Thank you, but Melody is waiting for me at home. Lunch is on me next time."

Knowing Melody's delicate situation, Gillian didn't push the matter and agreed with a brisk nod. "Deal."

With that, she stood up to settle the bill.

Elara followed her out, opening a ride-sharing app on her phone to call a car.

By the time she arrived home, Jocelyn was in the kitchen prepping lunch with Melody.

The three of them shared similar tastes and small appetites, so they were keeping it simple: a hearty soup, two meat dishes, and a side of vegetables.

After Elara and Sebastian had left earlier, Jocelyn had put the soup on to simmer. She had spent an hour playing with Melody before taking her to the nearby grocery store to pick up fresh ingredients, prepping everything so they only had to wait for Elara's return to start cooking.

Elara had texted her on the way back, allowing Jocelyn to time her cooking perfectly.

Melody had wanted to join her in the kitchen but was afraid of getting in her grandmother's way, so she obediently stood by the door, making sure not to cause any trouble.

Hearing the front door open, Melody peeked her head out of the kitchen. Once she confirmed it was Elara, she bolted toward her. "Mommy, welcome home!"

"I'm back, baby," Elara replied warmly.

Melody threw her arms open for a hug, but Elara gently held her back. "I'm freezing from outside. Let me take my coat off first."

Melody stood perfectly still, waiting patiently until Elara had removed her coat and hung it up before bounding over again.

Elara crouched down to meet her halfway. Melody wrapped her little arms tightly around her neck and planted a loud kiss on her cheek. "I love you the most, Mommy. Hehe."
