"You..."
Vivian's expression faltered, momentarily stunned by Elara's preemptive strike. Her eyes widened, and for a second, she couldn't even formulate a comeback.
They both knew exactly why she had come. Yet, instead of flying into a predictable rage, Elara didn't seem the slightest bit upset.
After all, they were rivals. The man they supposedly both loved had just abandoned his wife and daughter to choose her, the newcomer.
Even if she tried to hide behind her professional persona in the office, some sliver of emotion should have leaked through.
How could Elara be so calm? So completely unfazed? Vivian just couldn't understand it.
Seeing that she wasn't going to say another word, Elara looked away and reached for the conference room door, ready to leave.
"You know exactly why I'm here." Vivian snapped out of her daze, her voice frantic. "Changing the subject and running away won't do you any good!"
Elara paused. She turned halfway back, giving her a look of pure bewilderment. "That's rich. You're the one who barged into my workplace to throw a tantrum, and I'm not allowed to refuse to entertain you?"
Vivian's mouth opened, but no words came out.
Elara looked at her as if seeing her for the very first time. Her gaze swept up and down Vivian's figure with genuine curiosity and skepticism, her expression growing increasingly perplexed.
The intense scrutiny made Vivian squirm. She instinctively shrank back, but realizing how weak the subtle movement made her look, she mustered her courage, straightened her posture, and glared right back.
She looked exactly like a child whose attempt to show off had completely failed—refusing to admit defeat, puffing up her chest, and glaring just to keep up appearances. Childish. Pathetic.
Suddenly bored, Elara withdrew her gaze in disappointment.
Even after confronting Vivian face-to-face a few times now, she still couldn't fathom why Julian had fallen for her. Vivian was the exact opposite of everything Julian usually wanted in a partner.
Now, she was even more baffled as to how such an immature, uninteresting woman had managed to steal Julian's heart.
