Melody grabbed the phone and expertly opened Sebastian's chat on WhatsApp.

Luckily, her vocabulary was limited, so she couldn't read their previous text messages—nor did she care to try. She just held down the microphone button and recorded a voice note.

Sebastian must have been waiting by his phone, because he sent a voice reply almost instantly.

It was as if their tense, relationship-ending confrontation from ten minutes ago had never happened. He sounded exactly like he always did—gentle and endlessly patient, softly coaxing Melody to go to sleep early.

Melody just wanted to say goodnight, so she happily returned his wishes, clambered into bed, and bundled herself up in the blankets.
