Melody brushed off the warning, grinning as she looked up. "I won't! Because I know you'll always catch me, Mom!"
Elara couldn't help but smile, affectionately tapping her daughter's nose. "Cheeky."
As mother and daughter enjoyed their moment, Elara caught Sebastian putting his phone down out of the corner of her eye. When he stood up and walked toward them, her headache flared right back up, accompanied by a sharp spike of tension.
She was genuinely terrified by his reckless, full-frontal assault. What if he did something outrageous right in front of Melody and Jocelyn?
Jocelyn had spent years working in wealthy households; reading a room was second nature to her. If Sebastian even slightly crossed the line, her mother would immediately pick up on it.
And as for Melody...
She absolutely adored him. She'd probably be thrilled if the two of them got closer...
She already had a mountain of problems to deal with, and now this massive headache was piling on top. What a complete disaster!
As Sebastian approached, she couldn't pretend not to see him anymore. Elara lifted her chin and stared him down, using her eyes to silently scream, *Don't you dare.*
Catching the glaring warning, Sebastian simply blinked, flashing a perfectly innocent smile as he closed the distance between them without pausing.
Seeing his total disregard and blatant provocation, Elara immediately went on high alert. Her entire body tensed as she locked eyes with him, radiating an aura that said she would happily destroy their entire relationship if he tried anything funny.
Sebastian peered down at her, his smile unwavering as he met her hostile glare. Just as Elara was about to snap at him, he casually offered, "Let me take your bag."
With that, he politely extended his hand like a perfect gentleman.
The mundane request completely short-circuited her defenses. Elara blinked, thrown entirely off balance. "Wh-What?"
Sebastian's eyes crinkled with amusement. He nudged his open palm slightly closer. "You're trying to hold Melody. It's hard to do that with your bag in the way, right?"
Elara stared at him for two solid seconds before her gaze dropped to his outstretched hand, trying to calculate if this was some sort of trap.
