After finishing their little pact, Melody stepped away from Sebastian. She looked up, instantly meeting Elara's complicated, speechless stare.

The little girl paused for a second, then flashed Elara a sweet, innocent smile as if nothing had happened.

Elara kept her expression blank, staring down at her with serious eyes.

Melody seemed to realize she had done something wrong. She reached out, trying to grab Elara's hand to butter her up, and called out sweetly, "Mommy."

Elara kept her face stern. She was just about to gently scold her without hurting her feelings when Jocelyn Sterling walked over to them.

"What are you all doing standing at the door?"

Jocelyn looked between the three of them, her face full of confusion. "Are you acting as security guards?"

Elara remained silent.

Sebastian stayed quiet as well.

"Grandma."

Her savior had arrived. Melody quickly let go of Elara's hand, running over to her grandmother in a blatant attempt to change the subject. "Did you come to call us for dinner?"

Jocelyn naturally took the little hand Melody offered, holding it warmly. "I sure did."

She then looked at Elara. "Elara, go get changed."

The "lesson" was officially derailed.

Elara gave Melody a long, meaningful look and sighed softly. "I'll go change right now."

As she walked past Sebastian, she couldn't resist shooting him a warning glare, a silent demand for him to stop causing trouble.

Sebastian blinked innocently, though he didn't dare push his luck. He let Melody lead him away to wash their hands, getting ready for dinner.

By the time Elara had changed into comfortable clothes and washed her hands, Sebastian and Melody were already seated at the dining table.

Jocelyn had served everyone a bowl of soup and was setting out the silverware.

Seeing Elara, Melody patted the empty chair beside her. "Mommy, come sit here!"
