The knot in Sebastian's chest finally loosened. "I'm glad I could help."
And even happier you didn't reject my help or get angry about it.
"Do you have any plans for tonight?" Elara asked, shifting the topic.
Sebastian gave a subtle shake of his head.
Elara offered, "Come up for dinner."
"We can make up for the holiday dinner we missed."
It was exactly what he wanted. "I'd love to."
He stepped out of the car with her, adding a quick check. "Will Jocelyn mind? I didn't give any notice."
She had probably already cooked. His sudden arrival meant throwing together extra food.
Elara shot him a dry look, entirely dispensing with pleasantries. "Don't expect a gourmet feast."
Sebastian fell into step beside her, his tone ringing with pure contentment. "That's fine. I love home-cooked meals."
Elara texted Jocelyn to let her know he was coming.
The elevator chimed at their floor. As the doors parted, her apartment door clicked open simultaneously.
Melody, unsure if they had arrived, peeked her head out cautiously.
Seeing Elara, her eyes lit up. She pushed the door open to run out. "Mommy!"
Remembering she didn't have her shoes on, she yanked her foot back and scrambled to put them on.
Elara laughed. "No need to change your shoes, we're coming in."
"Aw."
Melody sounded disappointed but obediently stayed in the entryway. Then, her eyes locked onto the man behind her mother. "Sebastian."
He gave her a little wave. "Good afternoon, Melody."
