Unmatched Wife: Not His To Claim Anymore novel Chapter 105

RIVERA

But I wanted to eat here-

I know, buddy, but I just remembered something important I need to check on.I scooped him up with one arm, accepting our ice cream containers with the other. You can eat in the car. I’ll even let you eat it before dinner. How’s that?

Before dinner?Louis’s eyes went wide. This was unprecedented rulebreaking. Really?

Really. But you have to be very, very quiet while I take care of something. Can you do that?

Like a secret mission?

Exactly like a secret mission.

We got to my car, and I buckled Louis into his seat with his ice cream, making sure he was secure and occupied.

I need you to stay right here,I said seriously. Don’t get out of the car for any reason. If someone tries to talk to you, you don’t answer. You just eat your ice cream and wait for me. Understand?

Louis nodded solemnly, already digging into his dessert with focus.

I locked the car, activated the security system, and pulled out my phone to text Elijah: *Thorne spotted at medical complex near Fisher’s office. Following.*

Then I headed in the direction Thorne had gone, keeping my distance, using the afternoon foot traffic as cover.

The medical complex housed several practicesDr. Fisher’s therapy office, a pediatrician, a general practitioner, a dental office. Thorne could have legitimate business at any of them.

But I didn’t believe in coincidences.

I watched from across the street as Thorne entered the building through the main entrance. Through the glass doors, I could see him checking the directory, then heading toward the elevators.

My phone buzzed: *On my way. Don’t engage alone.*

I ignored Elijah’s sensible advice and entered the building, staying far enough back that Thorne wouldn’t notice me.

The elevator indicator showed he’d stopped on the third floor. Dr. Fisher’s floor.

I took the stairs two at a time, emerging onto the third floor just in time to see Thorne disappearing around a corner toward the therapy offices.

What was he doing here? Was he following, Matthew? Had he somehow discovered Blanca was alive and connected to the therapy sessions?

I crept closer, using the corridor’s layout to stay out of direct sight.

Thorne had stopped outside Dr. Fisher’s main office door. Not entering, juststanding there. Watching

My phone vibrated silently: Outside. Where are you?

I typed back: * 3rd floor. Thorne is watching Fisher’s office. Don’t know why.

Thorne pulled out his phone and made a call, his voice too low for me to hear clearly. But his body languagetense, focused, calculatingtold me this wasn’t a casual visit.

He was here for a reason. A specific reason that involved therapy, or Dr. Fisher’s patients, or-

My blood ran cold as the possibility crystallized.

Theo was Matthew’s son. Matthew had forced Bianca into a ritual that supposedly killed her. That ritual had been performed by Dr. Hartwick, who was now dead.

If Thorne was connected to that ritual, if he’d been the one who’d orchestrated Bianca’s supposed death-

Then he might be here to ensure Matthew didn’t start asking questions about what really happened. To make sure the official story of Bianca’s death remained unchallenged.

Or worse. To finish what the ritual hadn’teliminating any witnesses to whatever conspiracy had surrounded that procedure.

I pulled out my phone and called Klaus.

I need immediate protection on Matthew Morrison and his son,I said the moment he answered. They’re at Dr. Fisher’s office right now, and Thorne is watching the building.

You think Thorne is targeting them?

I think Thome is interested in them for reasons I don’t understand yet. But if Matthew starts investigating Bianca’s death, if he questions the official story, Thorne might see him as a threat.

On it. I’ll have security in place within ten minutes.

I ended the call just as Thorne turned and walked back toward the elevators, his phone still pressed to his ear.

I stayed hidden, watching him leave, my mind racing with implications.

I waited until Thorne had left the building entirely before heading back downstairs. Elijah was waiting in the lobby, his expression grim.

Tell me you have a good reason for going in there alone,he said.

Thome was watching Dr. Fisher’s office. Where Matthew and Theo have their therapy sessions.

Elijah’s eyes sharpened. You think there’s a connection?

I think there are too many coincidences. Thorne leading the purge that hunted Bianca’s mother’s network. Thorne cursing Louis. Thorne’s people attacking Vera right after she told Bianca about his involvement. And now Thorne showing up at the building where Bianca’s exhusband is receiving therapy.

What’s the connection?

I don’t know yet. But I’m going to find out.Theaded toward the exit. I need to get back to LouisI left him in the car with ice

cream as a distraction.

You left a fiveyearold alone in a car?

Locked. With security system active. For ten minutes I was already moving And before you lecture me about parenting choices, remember that I was following a man who’s tried to kill multiple people I care about.

Elijah followed me to the parking lot, where Louis was indeed still in the car, ice cream mostly consumed, looking perfectly

content.

Did you catch the bad guy?Louis asked as I opened its door.

Not yet, buddy. But I got important information I wiped chocolate from his face with a napkin Did anyone try to talk to you?
