Chapter 22
BIANCA
I was pulled against a solid chest, that seemed to run hot, as I was held steady by hands that were actually gentle despite the roughness of their callouses. I could smell the scent of pine trees and something burnt like coal and through my blurred vision, I could make out a face I’d crashed into twice before.
The mysterious Alpha.
“You,” I managed, my voice was slurring from exhaustion and pain that seemed to be coexisting at the same time, as moving felt like hell to me. “What are you…”
But he wasn’t looking at me anymore, once he noticed I wasn’t hurt physically. His eyes was locked on Louis, scanning him from head to toe Then those dark eyes shifted to me, and the fury in them made me want to shrink back.
“Who did this?” His voice was quiet, yet filled with anger which made me flinch instinctively, recognizing the aura of a powerful angry alpha who didn’t need to roar to be terrifying. “Who cursed my son?”
My son.
The words penetrated my foggy brain slowly. Louis’s father. The mysterious, absent, devoted father who’d been here all along but I had never seen before. Well I have seen but never drew the connection to him being the father of my patient. The man whose emails I’d been answering for three months.
This Alpha was Louis’s father.
“I” I tried to speak, but blood was still trickling from my nose, and my vision was starting to darken at the edges, making me unable to focus on anything else at the moment. “The curse–I saw the signature–but I don’t understand why”
His arms tightened around me, keeping me from collapsing completely. “Stay with me. What did you see? What signature?”
I wanted to tell him. Wanted to explain what I’d discovered when I was using my powers, I wanted him to know who had done this to an innocent child. But the pull was too strong, the darkness getting bigger and I couldn’t see him anymore, like my eyes had closed against my will.

But the Alpha’s arms remained steady around me, his body around mine like a shield as he refused to let go of me.
“Get Dr. Hartwick,” he commanded, his voice carrying absolute authority. “And clear this floor. Now.”
“Sir, we need to-”
“Now.” The Alpha command in that single word made everyone in the room freeze and submit instinctively to his words. “This woman just saved my son’s life. You will show her the respect she deserves, or you will answer to me personally. Is that clear?”
