Chapter 28

BIANCA

I ended the call and set the phone down, suddenly aware that Rivera had been watching me with an expression I couldn’t quité read.

“So that’s it,he said. It wasn’t a question. Thirty days from now, you’ll be free of him.

Thirty days from now, I’ll no longer be Luna of Silver Moon Pack.Saying that out loud, only made me realize it was now a reality.

Which means I can’t heal Mia’s supposed illness even if I wanted to. The treatment Dr. Hartwick proposed required Luna healing abilities combined with Alpha blood bond. Without the Luna title and the mate bond, I’m just a regular healer. Can’t cure her. Can’t be the sacrifice Matthew was planning.Which means that I am no longer important or worth keeping in Matthew’s eyes.

I picked up the soup Rivera had brought me and took a sip. It was good as I savoured the sip. The warmth spreading through me, grounding me to the present as I exhaled, feeling a lot times lighter than before.

What are you planning to do now?Rivera asked, heading straight to the point.

I set down the soup and met his eyes. I’m going to resign from this hospital. I sold my shares, which means I have no financial ties keeping me here. And I don’t….My voice wavered slightly at this point as I had to stop to catch my bearing before I continued speaking.

I don’t want to stay in this city and watch Matthew play happy family with Mia. Or Theo treat Mia better and call hér mum, forgetting that I existed.

Where will you go?

I don’t know.Telling him that felt like defeat. I had given up my future, unloved but at the very least stable and I realized that I have no idea what to do heere.

I’ve been a rogue before. I survived then, I can survive again. I can travel from city to city, selling my skills in exchange of food and money. Maybe I’ll find another pack that needs a healer and doesn’t care about my history. Maybe I’ll-

Come to Blood moon City.

I blinked, certain I’d misheard. What?

Rivera leaned forward, his expression serious.

Blood moon City. You will do better there, than you least expect. Healers are reverend the most in BloodMoon City. Besides I came here specifically to find you, Bianca. To find the healer who could save my son.

My mind was racing, trying to catch up with what he was telling me.. You came here for me? But how did you accomplish something like this.

I did my research. He pulled out his phone and showed me a screen full of medical journals, case studies, references to anonymous healers who had been performing miracles or medical impossibilities which dated way

back.

There are stories about you, even if you try to keep a low profile. The rogue healer with abilities beyond normal.

The woman who saved an Alpha’s life twice, who brought a stillborn pup back to life, who can see things other healers miss.

I stared at the articles, at the little breadcrumb trail of my past that I’d thought I’d covered so carefully. You tracked me down based on rumors?

Based on hope. His voice was different now, more fatherly, filled with emotion. Louis was dying, and every specialist I consulted said there was nothing they could do for my son and I should get ready for the inevitable. I refused to give up, not when there might be something or someone out there that could make a difference.. But I kept hearing whispers about a healer in Silver Moon territory who could do the impossible. So I came here, moved to this city, enrolled Louis in this hospital, and insisted that you would be the one to take the case..

The mysterious Alpha who kept crashing into me,I murmured. That wasn’t coincidence.

It was, the bumping into. We were communicating through emails. I was hoping for a speedy recovery but you seemed stumped as well, so I then called some specialists that had done something similar to this But then you figured it out yourself, used abilities I hadn’t even known you possessed, and saved him when I’d almost given up hope.

I thought about Louis and how he always had a smile for me, and was excited everytime I came to check up on him. I couldn’t leave him to die.

He’s not cured yet,I said quietly. I weakened the curse, bought him time. But I couldn’t break it completely. Not without-

Without knowing who cast it.Rivera’s jaw tightened. You said you recognized the signature. That you saw who cursed my son.

I nodded slowly. But I need to verify it. Need to do some more research to be certain of what I am saying. I need my mum’s journals. The signature was familiar, but I can’t make an accusation like that without being absolutely

certain.
