Chapter 30
BIANCA
I pressed my hand to my burning cheek, my mind racing through what he’d just said. He was right–technically right, in the worst possible way. The divorce papers were signed, yes. The mate bond dissolution had begun. But it took thirty days for the process to complete, thirty days for the bond to fully shatter and the marks to fade.
Until then, I was still technically Luna.
Still bound by pack law to use my abilities for the pack’s benefit.
Still trapped.
“Matthew, please.” My voice came out broken, pleading. “You don’t understand. The dissolution has started. My Luna abilities are already weakening. Even if I try the treatment, the chances of it working are minimal. And the chances of me surviving it are—”
“I don’t care about chances.” He opened the car door and shoved me inside with enough force to make me stumble. “You’re going to try. You’re going to save her. Because if you don’t, if you let Mia die when you could have helped her, I will make sure every pack in this territory knows what you are. A selfish, jealous woman who let an innocent person die out of spite.”
He slammed the door and got in the driver’s side, locking the doors before I could try to escape.
I knew the truth even if he didn’t want to hear it. Without my full Luna abilities, attempting this treatment was a death sentence. The ritual required sustained healing over hours, channeling massive amounts of energy through the mate bond, using Luna magic to purify and regenerate.
I was no longer a full Luna. My bond was dissolving. My abilities were fading.
If I tried this, I would die.
And Matthew knew it. Deep down, he had to know it. But he was choosing Mia anyway. Choosing her life over mine. Choosing to sacrifice me to save the woman he actually loved.
The drive to the hospital passed in a blur. I tried to speak, to reason with him, but he ignored me. His jaw was set, his eyes fixed on the road, and his hands gripped the steering wheel so tightly his knuckles were white.
When we arrived, he dragged me through the emergency entrance and straight to a private wing I’d never accessed before. Dr. Hartwick was there, looking uncomfortable, along with several nurses and what appeared to be a full surgical team.
“Alpha Morrison,” Dr. Hartwick started, “I’m not sure this is–

“Do it.” Matthew’s voice brooked no argument. “Prep them both. Start the treatment.”
“Matthew, if you’ll just listen for a moment-
“I SAID DO IT!”
The Alpha command in his voice made everyone in the room flinch. Dr. Hartwick’s protests died in his throat, and he nodded slowly, defeated.
“Prep the Luna for the ritual,” he said to the nurses, his voice heavy with reluctance.

They descended on me like vultures. Strong hands grabbed my arms, pulling me toward a hospital bed. I fought them, struggling against their grip, but I was weak from magical exhaustion and outnumbered.
“Matthew, please!” I was crying now, tears streaming down my face. “Please don’t do this. Please just listen-”
“Save your breath for the ritual.” He wasn’t even looking at me. His eyes were fixed on the bed across from mine, where Mia lay looking pale and weak and perfectly positioned to be saved by my sacrifice.
They strapped me down. Actually strapped me to the bed like I was a prisoner instead of a person. I felt hands on my arm, the sharp prick of a needle, cold liquid entering my bloodstream.
Anesthesia.
“No-“I tried to fight it, but the drug was already working, spreading numbness through my limbs. “Matthew, please-”
But he’d already moved to Mia’s bedside. I watched through blurring vision as he took her hand, as he brushed hair back from her face with a tenderness he’d never shown me.
