"That face of yours truly is exceedingly beautiful."
Inside the great hall, a lofty, ethereal voice drifted over, now near, now far.
Mu Qingge paused, then immediately looked around.
The woman who had led her into this Divine Emperor Palace, however, at this moment quietly bent her body and withdrew.
Mu Qingge naturally saw her leaving, but paid it no mind. While distinguishing the speaker’s location and tracking it, her gaze fell upon the layers of gauze curtains ahead.
Those layers of gauze falling to the floor divided the great hall into two parts. One was where Mu Qingge stood, and the other half lay beyond the curtains.
No one knew what silk the curtains were woven from; on the surface they gave off a faint radiance, blocking the view of those outside.
Yet if one looked from within to without, one could see everything outside with utter clarity, as if those curtains did not exist at all.
Behind the gauze stood a chaise longue fit for a noble consort, upon which someone lay stretched out sideways, figure supple and enticing to the imagination. She propped her head on one hand, sleeve hanging down, revealing a section of smooth, delicate arm that seemed to exude a faint fragrance.
Behind her were quite a few maids, each attending to her appointed task.
One shook a palace fan, one held a plate of Spirit Fruit, another carried a censer. A circle of beauties surrounded her, yet even so could not steal the slightest fraction of her radiance.
The instant her gaze fell upon Mu Qingge stepping in, it suddenly brightened, and an exclamation escaped her unbidden.
By the time she realized she had lost control, it was already too late. Words of praise had long since reached Mu Qingge’s ears.
That made her gaze sink, and in her heart she thought, "This face is so beautiful that even I feel jealous of it. Fortunately, it belongs to a man. If a woman possessed such a face, it would have to be destroyed, lest it bring calamity to this Four Seas Divine Land."
She looked at Mu Qingge, and Mu Qingge, at this moment, also looked toward the gauze curtains. Their gazes met across the veil.
Li Yuan clearly saw those limpid eyes of Mu Qingge’s and couldn’t help a jolt in her heart, secretly marveling: "What a pair of clear eyes, able to see straight through a person’s heart."
But immediately afterwards, jealousy surged in her again. "I really want to gouge those eyeballs out."
Outside the curtains, Mu Qingge stood where she was, unmoving.
She looked to the gauze and had more or less guessed that the earlier remark had been spoken by Phoenix Heaven God Emperor Li Yuan. Just hearing this woman’s voice made her feel an inexplicable disgust.
Mu Qingge realized for the first time that she was being ruled by emotion, that because of Si Mo she had come to utterly loathe someone.
She knew Li Yuan was sizing her up, but her own identity was perfectly aboveboard, so she had no fear of being suspected.
Her gaze flickered slightly, and Mu Qingge inclined her head, saying, "Mu Qingge of Huan Yue Domain pays respects to Phoenix Heaven God Emperor."
"The little God Emperor of Huan Yue Domain—this Emperor has heard of you, and of late you seem quite renowned. After stirring up enough commotion in East Divine Land, South Divine Land, and West Divine Land, you’ve now come to North Divine Land?" Li Yuan’s voice sounded again.
Her tone still betrayed no trace of emotion, her manner just as lofty as ever.
Mu Qingge, however, did not mind.
A Divine Emperor, naturally, must carry a Divine Emperor’s bearing.
Of all the Divine Emperors she had seen so far, it seemed that apart from that retired old Divine Emperor of Huan Yue Domain, none were the approachable sort.
Even the Huan Yue God Emperor left one with a sense of unfathomable depth.
