"Qingge, what’s wrong?" Sensing Mu Qingge’s unusual behavior, Qin Yiyao asked. This was the first time she addressed Mu Qingge by name. Before speaking, there was a bit of shyness, but once she spoke, she found it rolled off the tongue smoothly.
Mu Qingge, who was quite upset by someone, didn’t notice the change in Princess Changle’s attitude and answered casually, "Hmm, nothing."
Since she didn’t want to explain, Qin Yiyao didn’t press further.
The two followed the maid and bypassed the crowded areas, heading towards the palace.
The further they went, the more strange Mu Qingge felt. Why would Bai Xiyue come to such a secluded place with the Crown Prince? And what was the Crown Prince planning by bringing her here?
"Princess, young lord, they’re in the side hall just ahead," the maid pointed to a hidden courtyard gate.
"Here?" Qin Yiyao furrowed her brows, seemingly sensing the issue as well.
"What is this place?" Mu Qingge was here for the first time and had no knowledge of the palace layout, so she directly questioned.
"These side halls have been unused for years and are almost abandoned. Why would the Imperial Brother bring Miss Bai here?" Qin Yiyao explained briefly and then turned to the maid, "Did you see anyone else with them?"
The maid shook her head, saying, "I only saw Miss Bai accompanying the Crown Prince here, with no one attending to them. Once they entered the side hall, I came to inform the Princess and Lord."
Qin Yiyao looked at Mu Qingge, seemingly waiting for her decision.
Since when did she start caring about Mu Qingge’s opinion? She probably didn’t notice herself. It was instinctive to take this striking young man in red as the lead.
Mu Qingge thought for a moment and said, "Let’s go over and take a look first." Then, she instructed the maid, "Wait here. If you don’t see me and the Princess out within half an hour, go to find the Empress and make the Crown Prince’s actions with Miss Bai known to as many people as possible."
The maid nodded blankly and hid among the fake rocks, remembering Mu Qingge’s orders.
She didn’t understand Mu Qingge’s intentions but proceeded with the orders nonetheless.
"Let’s go," Mu Qingge said to Qin Yiyao.
The two continued walking a few more steps, approaching the side hall.
"What are you suspicious about?" Qin Yiyao asked.
Mu Qingge shook her head, "I don’t know yet; it’s just a precaution." She hoped she was overthinking it, and that the Crown Prince wouldn’t be bold enough to go that far.
Finally, they stepped onto the stairs of the side hall, and before pushing the door open, they heard a conversation between a man and a woman.
Mu Qingge immediately stopped and held Qin Yiyao’s hand, leading her to the window. Startled by the sudden grasp, Qin Yiyao’s heart skipped, but she didn’t pull away and let him lead her.
