Chapter 213 Run Along

Ava glanced at Bruno. As soon as Laurent reached her, she said. “I’m heading out”

Laurent watched her walk away. Then he tooked at the soldier on duty, gave a small nod, and turned back the way he came.

Bruno stood there, staring at them. Laurent had just gotten back, and now here he was, walking his wife down like he couldn’t bear to let her out of sight.

Brunc’s mind wandered. Were they sleeping in separate rooms? Or sharing one?

The second that thought surfaced, he mentally slammed on the brakes.

Nope. Off–limits. That was top–secret material.

When Ava arrived, most of the girls had already gone to grab breakfast.

She didn’t head to the cafeteria. Instead, she took a seat on a bench outside the dorm building. Ms. Levis passed by shortly after, and Ava gave her a polite greeting.

“Morning, Ava.”

The one speaking wasn’t Ms. Levis, though. It was the same girl who danced and sang the night before–Naomi Yellen. She had long rose–bronze hair and gray–pink eyes that looked like they’d been painted on. Her face had the kind of charm that made people stop and stare.

Another stunner. Ava had always had a soft spot for girls like that even if they weren’t close.

“Good morning, Naomi,” she said.

Naomi sat beside her and smiled. “Didn’t see you at breakfast. You okay?”

Ava shook her head. “I’m fine. Just had to handle something. Already cleared it with our instructor. But thanks for checking in.”

Naomi’s grin widened. “Good. I figured you weren’t the type to skip just because you felt off.”

Ava studied her up close. There was a tiny mole just under one side of her nose. “That little beauty mark you’ve got is adorable. it makes you look super playful.”

Naomi touched her nose. “You think so? I was actually planning to get it lasered off.”

“Don’t. It makes you stand out.”

“Well, if you’re saying that, maybe I’ll keep it.”

Zoey and Noelle appeared arm in arm just then and spotted the two chatting.

Zoey sped up and dropped onto the bench beside Ava. “Ava! You missed breakfast? Why?”

Ava gave the same answer she’d told Naomi.

Zoey Side–eyed Naomi, then grabbed Ava’s arm and clutched her chest with the other hand. Her brows pulled together as she put on a pained expression. “Ava! You can’t just forget us the moment a new girl shows up! Me and Noelle have been by your side since day one!”

Ava couldn’t help but laugh.

Naomi stared at her in confusion, totally baffled.

Noelle walked over and gave Zoey’s shoulder a light slap. “Quit the act. You’re laying it on way too thick.”

Ava looked at Naomi and said, “Don’t mind her. She’s always putting on a show.”

The rest of the girls who’d already eaten were standing in groups, chatting.

Ivan walked by and caught sight of Ava. After a beat, he called out to her.

She got up quickly and jogged over. “Instructor Cavalli, do you need something?”

He thought back to how his superior had pulled him aside that morning, practically spelling it out. When it came to Ava, he needed to ease off.
