Naomi lifted her hand and checked the time. “I need to go meet up with the people from my class, so I’m heading out first.”
She looked instantly burdened again when she mentioned their program. “Our class is doing a singing–and–dancing performance. Seriously, what a nightmare.”
With that, she gathered her things and left the dance studio.
After Naomi went out, Ava turned to Malory. “Malory, what about your class? What are you doing for the gala?”
Malory lifted her chin high and puffed out her chest, looking unbearably pleased with herself. “A solo dance. Performed by me. The whole class voted, and everyone chose me.”
Noelle laughed. “A solo? None of the other girls in your class is joining? If I remember right, you have four or five girls in there, don’t you?”
Malory spread her hands in mock helplessness. “What could I do? They picked me, not the others. At first, I even asked whether they wanted to do it together. I offered to choreograph a girl–group piece for all of us, but they turned me down.”
Noelle’s interest rose at once. “Then I’m definitely looking forward to seeing it. What kind of dance are you doing? Hurry up and show us a little first.”
Malory grinned and pulled her costume from her bag. “Then wait a minute.”
Zoey scratched her head and clicked her tongue. “D*mn. Looks like she’s really planning to go all out at the freshman gala. Good thing I get to see it first.”
To be fair, Malory really did have a strong foundation in dance. She had studied a wide range of styles and had genuine talent in that area.
Before long, she came back out wearing the costume.
The purple dance outfit clung closely to her figure, exposing a narrow strip of pale skin at her
waist.
The skirt was made of gauzy fabric in the same shade, with a high slit that revealed flashes of her long, fair legs whenever she moved.
A silver chain draped around her waist, matching bracelets circled both wrists, and she wore no shoes, only a delicate anklet on one foot.

A veil in the same purple shade covered the lower half of her face.
Every step she took made her waist sway slowly, alluringly.
The moment Zoey saw her, her jaw nearly dropped.

Malory had not even started dancing yet. She had only changed clothes, and already the effect was overwhelming.
“D*mn, you’re going to crush everyone when the time comes.” Zoey slapped a hand against her chest. “How many guys are you planning to drive crazy? I can already imagine the swarm.”
Her face turned red as she kept staring. “You’re literally some kind of siren. That figure is ridiculous. I have no idea which lucky man is going to end up with you in the future.”
Noelle was even more straightforward.
She reached out without hesitation and started touching here and there, staring at Malory with shameless appreciation. “How about you spend tonight with me instead?”
Malory shot her a teasing look, then lifted one finger to tap Noelle’s forehead. Her red lips curved slightly as she shook her head. “Too bad. You’re not my type.”
Then she pushed Noelle away with a light shove.
Zoey immediately started clapping. “Seriously, if the two of you don’t join the Drama Club, that’s a tragic loss for the performing arts.”
Ava’s eyes had already brightened. “Malory, stop teasing and dance already. I want to see.”
Noelle quickly sat down properly, ready to enjoy the show.
The moment Malory began moving, the whole room changed.
She danced like temptation given shape. The silver chain at her waist, the bracelets on her wrists, and the anklet on her foot all chimed crisply as she moved. The sway of her waist, the line of her legs, the ease in her body… Ava could not help but cover her mouth as she laughed. It was almost unfairly seductive.
Then, without warning, Malory lifted the veil, walked straight toward Ava, caught her hand, and circled around her, twisting her body in an openly provocative way.
Zoey watched, burning with embarrassment and a pounding heart. “D*mn,” she muttered. “She really is a little vixen.”

Noelle looked completely captivated. “She’s gorgeous. If I were a man, I’d definitely fall for a temptress like this, too.”
Then Ava moved.
She slid backward several steps in one smooth motion.
Malory’s eyes brightened instantly.
In that moment, she became certain of it.
Ava had definitely learned dance before.
Ava was not the type to be easily dragged into someone else’s rhythm, yet this time she let herself be drawn in and followed along for a while.
