Ryan curved his lips into a faint smile. “Are you planning to reject me? If you do, I might actually be hurt. I was only teasing you anyway–I wouldn’t let any other man lay eyes on you.”

The moment he noticed the way certain men were staring at her with dirty intent, he genuinely felt like crushing their eyes himself.

He was petty and narrow–minded, unable to tolerate other men looking at her that way.

Even so, if there ever came a chance, he wouldn’t mind sharing a close dance with her one day. Just imagining it made his pulse quicken.

Soon after, the food arrived, and the group continued their casual conversation while eating.

Once dinner ended, Laurent prepared to leave.

Ava gently wiped her lips with a napkin and spoke up. “I’ll see you out.”

Outside the club, the people who came to pick Laurent up were already waiting. She escorted him to the doorway and said, “Laurent, thanks for coming to my welcome gala tonight.”

Laurent reached out and lightly brushed her hair. “Once I finish this assignment, I’ll be on leave. When that time comes, I’ll spend more time with you.”

While speaking, he opened the car door and stepped in, one hand still resting on it without closing it immediately. He held her gaze for a long moment before finally saying, “Go back inside. I’m leaving now.”

Ava lifted her hand and waved. “Safe trip. I’ll be waiting for you to come back. Take care of yourself on your mission.”

He gave a slight nod, then closed the door. A moment later, he rolled the window back down. “I’m heading off now.”

She stood there watching as the military vehicle slowly pulled away from the club. Only then did she turn and walk back inside.

After only a few steps, she glanced back over her shoulder. From a distance, he noticed the others still standing there, all silently observing her.

That night, Ava stayed at a hotel near the school and only returned to campus early the next morumg.

She went back to her dorm first, quickly changed, packed her belongings, and then headed to the cafeteria for breakfast

Naomi called her, and they arranged to meet at the cafeteria By the time Ava arrived, Naomi had already been there for a while

“You’re up early, Naomi,” Ava said after grabbing her meal and sitting down beside her

Naomi was already midway through eating. She stirred her bowl and leaned in slightly, lowering her vowe they’ve already figured out what happened to Malory last night

Ava spoke calmly. “Once Malory is out of the hospital, we should go visit her in her dorm.”
