When it came to men, age did not matter. Temper did not matter. Personality did not matter Even the principles they had clung to for years could fall apart the moment they met the person fate had chosen for them.
After a few more formal pleasantries, the promotional still shoot officially started.
Standing off to one side, Isla and Ryan watched Ava work in front of the camera. The photographer, Calista Brent, was also someone Isla had known for years.
“Once these stills and the teaser hit Stellar Network, they’re absolutely going to explode,” Isla said lightly. “And you’re still this calm? Is that confidence in her, or confidence in yourself?”
Ryan kept his eyes on Ava as she adjusted her posture under Calista’s guidance. “She was neve meant to stay hidden. She’s smart, she’s gifted, and she belongs somewhere people can see her.”
He smiled faintly. “If she wants to do something, then she should do it. The rest of it? We’ll deal with that for her.
“We haven’t known each other long, but I trust her. She already promised she wouldn’t go looking elsewhere. And Isla…” He glanced at her. “Do we really look that helpless to you?”
For once, Isla saw a steadiness in him that she usually did not.
Calista, meanwhile, could not stop praising Ava. She said the girl had an absurdly strong camera presence.
Isla crossed over to look at the photos Calista had just taken, and the two exchanged a few thoughts over the shots.
Ava stood nearby drinking water. Ryan looked at her with bright, obvious delight in his eyes, smiling so openly that none of his usual aloof pride was left.
Lydia, who had already realized their relationship was no longer ordinary, took one look at Ryan’s uncharacteristically soft expression and felt like she had just been force-fed a mountain of sweetness. She immediately abandoned that side and drifted over to stand with Isla instead.
After Ava finished her water, Ryan stepped forward with a tissue and gently wiped the moisture from the corner of her mouth. “Ava, you were amazing. You really don’t look like someone who’s never done this before.”
They were standing too close.

Ava tipped her face up to look at him, while Ryan lowered his head to dab at her lips.
The moment Calista saw that, she reacted instantly and snapped a shot.

Once she had the photo, she stared at it for a while with the satisfied smile of someone who had just seen something unbearably sweet, then waved Isla and Lydia over to admire it.
A little later, Isla walked up to Ava and praised her again. “You did really well. Are you tired? you can still keep going, let’s move on to the outdoor portion first.”
Part of the promotional short would be filmed in the park next to the museum, and some scenes would also be shot inside the museum itself.
Ava had already gone through the script in advance. It told the story of a girl visiting the museum, then catching fragments of a distant past, where women from another era seemed overlap with women of the present, crossing time in brief, blurred moments.
Isla drew Ava aside and began explaining the next scene in detail.
Ryan did not interrupt. He simply found a place nearby and waited quietly.
The props had already been prepared, and the storyboard had been finalized long ago. Isla carefully explained where Ava should walk, how she should use her gaze, what emotional ton the moment required, and what the camera would be looking for.
Ava had never done work like this before, so she listened with complete concentration. Once Isla finished, Ava stepped aside and quietly sorted through the scene in her own head.
For ten minutes, she stood there shaping the role in her mind and layering in her own interpretation. When she was finally ready, she lifted a hand and flashed Isla an okay sign.
Isla nodded, returned to her chair, and motioned for filming to begin.
Holding an umbrella, Ava stepped into the misty rain. When she reached the moon gate, she paused and lifted her face slightly.
The camera slowly drew out the full shape of her features.
She looked into the distance, her expression blank at first, unfocused, almost absent. Then, little by little, light returned to her eyes.
Watching through the monitor, Isla forgot to breathe for a second.
Ava did not say a single line, yet everything in the way she carried herself was speaking. It was the kind of silent emotion that caught people by the throat.
