Ava replayed the video from beginning to end and then carefully reviewed the accompanying written breakdown. As anticipated, everything she saw was of an exceptionally high standard.
While observing, she picked up on a pattern-participants with wood-based elemental power had appeared relatively infrequently in previous university-level elemental tournaments.
That wasn’t surprising. In reality, wood elemental power users were already uncommon, and those with exceptional talent in that
category were even harder to come across.
Ava idly drummed her fingers on the table, thinking. Her main advantage was that she possessed two elemental powers, a fact deliberately withheld by the authorities.
Even so, she still couldn’t accurately measure her own capabilities. Based on the official statistics and past competition data, she didn’t seem particularly outstanding within this field.
However, she wasn’t here chasing trophies. Her purpose was participation-testing her limits in real combat and refining herself through real experience.
On Tuesday morning, Ava walked out of the dorm. She had only taken a few steps when someone suddenly called out to her.
“Ava!”
She turned and saw Tylissa standing there.
Ava’s expression tightened slightly. She didn’t understand why Tylissa had chosen to stop her, and the uncertainty made her immediately cautious.
“You’re off to class this early?” Tylissa asked.
“I’m just going for breakfast. Ms. Clark, if you’ve got something to say, just say it.”
For a brief moment, Tylissa’s smile faltered before she quickly recovered. “Ms. Morren, you always seem to assume the worst of me every time we meet.”
“Assume the worst? I wouldn’t go that far. If you’ve got something to say, just say it. I need breakfast.”
Her tone made her point clear-stop delaying her.
Tylissa let out a soft sigh. “Sorry. I’ve been away from school recently due to health problems and recovery. I didn’t even know what people were saying about you online until someone mentioned it to me later.
“I saw those posts too. I really don’t have any negative opinion of you, Ms. Morren, so please don’t misunderstand me because of what was said online. I honestly don’t know why people keep comparing us.”
Ava now understood her intent. “You already said it–those are just online trolls. Why take them seriously? I don’t have any opinion about you either, Ms. Clark. We simply stay in our own lanes. You are you, and I am me. I won’t take internet chatter to heart.
“If there’s nothing else, I’ll go now.” With that, Ava turned and left.

Tylissa remained where she stood, watching her walk away. Despite her attempts to sound friendly and composed, Ava had not
reacted at all
She wasn’t easy to influence. Even if she was only the Morren family’s adopted daughter she was still recognized by them.
Tylissa frowned slightly. Ever since meeting Ava, she had felt increasingly unable to steer situations the way she wanted. Despite years of relying on the system, she had suffered a major setback because ofAva.
In contrast, Ava had walked away completely untouched, as nothing had happened, white she was left dealing with the fallout.
Tylissa pressed her lips together. Ava’s calm, unhurried demeanor irritated her-it only made her feel like the one being mocked.
She opened the control panel. The mission panel remained inactive and greyed out, with no new assignments appearing. She had no idea what kind of difficult task would come next.
The failed mission had already taken a heavy toll on her, both physically and mentally. She had no desire to experience that kind of punishment again.
All she could do was hope the next assignment would be easier to complete.
