Chapter 64 Unforgivable

“Shut your filthy mouth! All you ever do is push people around. You see a good–looking guy and start hitting on him like it’s a game. You’re making women look bad! You’re supposed to be an Awakened woman, and you waste that status bullying men and harassing women. You think that’s something to be proud of? You should count your lucky stars that you’re a woman, that you’re Awakened. The law is way too soft on people like you, or you’d have been dead more times than you can even imagine!”
I wasn’t even planning to argue with her, but she actually harasses Asher. Some things are just unforgivable!
Jolene shot Ava a venomous glare. She never expected to be humiliated this badly by a mere ordinary person, let alone have the very identity she took pride in ridiculed so openly. Fury surged through her, her pupils flaring wide. “Go die!” she snarled.
Asher, who had been keeping a close eye on Ava, immediately grabbed her and pulled her back. “Ava, are you okay? Does your head hurt? Talk to me, come on, talk to me.”
For a brief second, Ava felt a sharp sting in her head, like someone had pricked it with a needle, but other than that, she felt nothing.
“You dare hurt Ava?” Asher’s hand clenched around nothing, and suddenly a long, icy blue spear materialized, radiating a chilling aura. “Even if it lands me in prison, I will kill you today!”
“Asher!” Ava grabbed his arm and shook her head. “I’m fine.”
He looked her over from head to toe and asked urgently, “Are you really okay? She used her power on you. Your head is really fine?”
Ava nodded. “I don’t know what just happened, but really, I’m fine.”
Asher ran a hand through his hair, confused.
Didn’t she use her power? When an Awakened goes after an ordinary person, it almost always ends in death. There are no exceptions.
“How are you not hurt?” Jolene’s disbelief almost caused her to collapse. She was only a first- tier Awakened, but handling an ordinary human was usually a walk in the park. She had done it before, but never lost control in public like this.
Ava tilted her head and looked at her. “Too bad for you. I’m still alive. It looks like your power rank is relatively low. You call yourself a big shot? You used your power on someone like me

and broke the law.”

She smirked, fully aware of how to push Jolene’s buttons. “Oh, by the way, I have a sister. It turns out she’s Awakened too. Maybe even a higher rank than you. She could be on her here to deal with you right now.”

“You’re alive and kicking. Who can prove I used my power on you? Who? I was just scaring you. If I really wanted to hurt you, would you even be alive right now? But now, I’m going to use my honor as an Awakened and challenge your admirer!” Jolene shouted.
Ava rolled her eyes. “Whether or not you used your power, everyone saw this. Struggling won’t help.”
Jolene got to her feet from the ground. “Then try and stop me. I said I didn’t use my power. Who’s going to prove otherwise? If you were dead, maybe. But you’re alive. No one can prove a thing. You really think the law will protect you? Maybe it’ll give you some justice if you’re dead. You’re not dead, are you?”
“You are shameless! I refuse your ridiculous challenge.” Ava said flatly.
Jolene slammed on her Holoband, tapping out orders. “You don’t get to refuse! My husband is Rank S. So what if you have a powerful brother? You’re just a normal girl. Who would look at you if there’s a strong man in the picture? At most, you’d get some Rank A guy chasing after you.”
Jolene had a reputation for collecting men like trophies, but only a few were worthy of her actual commitment. Of her six husbands, four were of Rank S, and two were of Rank A. That gave her all the confidence she needed. Most people wouldn’t dare cross her, even if they got the short end of the stick. Of course, she avoided tangling with influential families.
Ava reached up and tapped her head. “Honestly, you might want to see a neurologist. You’re out of your mind.”
Suddenly, a fierce gust of wind swept through the scene. The giant electronic screens went black. A clear, male voice rang in their ears. “Fine, we accept your challenge.”
Ava blinked. Something about the voice felt familiar. She looked up, and suddenly, everything went black.
Why are these people here? Seriously, I just came out to have some fun. I am not trying to get myself dragged into trouble.
Asher let out a cold laugh and fixed Jolene with a look meant for the dead. “Some people get exactly what they ask for. I’ve just never seen anyone go out of their way to beg for death like this.”

“Get over here,” Laurent said, curling his fingers at Ava.
Ava stared at the sky, then at the ground, pretending she had heard nothing at all.
“Ava, come on,” Keith said with an easy smile, his eyes already on her.

She wanted to keep fooling herself, but that hope died fast. Ava dragged her feet as she walked over, then lifted her head to read their expressions. “This isn’t on me. She started it.”
