Chapter 233
Chapter 233
The doctor added, “The patient will need to stay in the ICU for observation. After twenty–four hours, we can move him to a regular room.
James noticed Serena’s pale complexion and shaky hands. “Ms. Gray, let me take you to get some rest. There’s no point staying here when you can’t even see Mr. Brannon. If something happens to you, all his effort to protect you would be for nothing.”
Serena nodded weakly, knowing he was right.
After resting in the hospital room for a day, Keith was transferred out of the ICU but still hadn’t regained consciousness. His body was covered in multiple fractures, and he’d suffered a concussion.
Fortunately, his internal organs were unharmed, so his life wasn’t in danger. But with the head injury, no one could say when he might wake up.
Every day, Serena would finish her treatments and head straight to Keith’s room to care for him.
James tried to discourage her several times, but eventually gave up when he kept finding her there anyway.
Soon, Sophia brought Alyssa to the hospital as well.
After all, with Keith’s serious condition, Alyssa was legally his only family member and had the right to know what was happening.
Alyssa’s eyes welled up with tears when she was led into the room. She approached the bedside cautiously and reached for Keith’s hand with trembling fingers.
“Don’t worry, Alyssa. Daddy’s going to be fine,” Serena said softly, stroking the little girl’s hair. “He’s just really tired, so he’s taking a long nap. He might even wake up today.”
Alyssa could only sniffle and look up at Serena with teary eyes before throwing herself into her arms.
Keith remained unconscious for two more days, finally waking up on the third morning.
Serena had just prepared some warm water to clean him up when she walked into the room and found herself looking directly into his open eyes.
“You’re finally awake.” Her voice caught in her throat, and Keith, still groggy from his long sleep, could tell from her expression that he’d been out for quite some time.
“Sorry for worrying you.” Keith’s voice came out rough and hoarse.
Serena couldn’t help but laugh, her expression caught between relief and exasperation. “You’re the one who got hurt protecting me. Why are you apologizing?”
“I just didn’t want you to be upset.” Keith’s voice was still gravelly as he spoke.
Serena looked away awkwardly, setting down the hot water she’d been holding before getting him a fresh glass.
After a while, they talked through what had happened after the crash. Serena had already been to the police station for a basic identification. Still, she didn’t know much more than that–they’d have to wait for Keith to wake up before making real decisions.
“From what you’re telling me, we’ve made enemies of Brannon Creative Group’s biggest rivals, Hansen Group. Their boss, Chandler Hansen, has always been ruthless, but I never thought he’d try to kill someone in broad daylight.” Serena frowned.
“It’s okay. You don’t need to be scared–I’ll handle what comes next.” Keith took Serena’s hand, his gaze intense.
He continued, “And don’t blame yourself for this. I did want to protect you, but they were coming after me in the first place. If you hadn’t been with me, you never would’ve gotten caught up in this mess.”
Serena shook her head. She wouldn’t blame Keith and didn’t feel like she’d been dragged into something unfairly.
