**A Divorce**
Rupert rose from his seat, determination etched on his features. “Xavier, I need to have a word with you,” he declared, his voice steady yet urgent. The two of them made their way to Xavier’s car, the atmosphere thick with unspoken tension.
Once inside, Xavier pulled out a photograph, his fingers trembling slightly as he handed it to Rupert. The older man’s brow furrowed at the sight. “I’ve seen this man before,” he murmured thoughtfully, his mind racing back through family connections. “He’s a distant relative from your aunt’s side, isn’t he? I remember he worked as your uncle’s driver in his younger days.”
Xavier nodded, his expression serious. “We were merely offering him a job, but shortly after he started, he fell gravely ill. Your uncle even paid for his treatment, but he never returned to work after that.”
Rupert’s eyes narrowed, suspicion creeping in. “Is he the one who approached Michelle, convincing her to bend the rules so Josephine could donate blood at the hospital?”
Xavier met Rupert’s gaze, silence hanging heavy between them. The older man could read the unspoken truth in his grandson’s eyes.
A storm cloud seemed to form over Rupert’s face, darkening his features. “Why on earth would Jonathan orchestrate such a scheme, dragging you into this mess with Courtney and Josephine?”
Xavier’s voice was low, almost a whisper. “Is he after the…?” His words trailed off, leaving the implication hanging in the air.
“Listen, Grandpa,” Xavier continued, urgency threading through his tone. “If you confront my uncle about this, he and my aunt will deny everything. Stephen will take the fall, no doubt about it.”
“Let’s keep this quiet for now,” Rupert replied, his voice grim. “I’ll dig deeper into this situation.”
Rupert’s expression was a mask of concern as he nodded, silence enveloping them for a moment. But as he reached for the car door, he hesitated and turned back to Xavier. “Xavier, if your uncle is indeed behind this, it shouldn’t implicate Jason in any way, right?”
Xavier sighed, his thoughts swirling. “That kid, Jason…”
“Grandpa,” Xavier interrupted, his tone firm. “If my uncle and aunt are involved in something nefarious, they would likely shield Jason from it, keeping him out of the mess to protect him.”
Rupert felt a wave of relief wash over him at Xavier’s words, and he finally exited the car, the weight of the conversation still heavy on his shoulders.
As the car door clicked shut, Amy, who had been quietly observing, couldn’t contain her curiosity. “Mr. Beltran, do you genuinely believe Jason is uninvolved in all of this?”
Xavier’s dark eyes were like pools of ink, deep and inscrutable. He remained silent, lost in thought. The uncertainty gnawed at him; he couldn’t dismiss the possibility of Jason’s involvement, nor would he jump to conclusions without solid proof.
Bryan shook his head vigorously, panic evident in his eyes. “Mr. Beltran, I admit that Russell and Courtney paid me to lie and claim that Josephine saved you, but I swear I’ve never met Vice President Beltran.”
Xavier’s dark gaze turned icy as he exchanged another look with Amy. She tightened her grip on Bryan’s wrist again, eliciting another cry of pain from him.
“You should know,” Xavier said, his voice low and threatening, “I can have you locked up once more, and this time, you won’t make it out alive.”
Fear washed over Bryan as he contemplated the very real threat in Xavier’s words. “Mr. Beltran, I’ll talk! I’ll tell you everything! Just have Amy let go of me!”
Xavier nodded to Amy, and she released her hold. Bryan rubbed his aching wrist, desperation evident in his demeanor. “I kept in contact with Stephen. I never met Vice President Beltran, but I once saw Mrs. Beltran meeting with Stephen. I even took a picture.”
Xavier’s brow furrowed at this revelation. The realization hit him like a bolt of lightning: Jonathan was orchestrating everything from the shadows, allowing his wife to take the heat. If the truth came to light, he could easily let her bear the consequences, and the Patriarch would likely only scold her.
A sardonic smile crept onto Xavier’s lips, disbelief mingling with admiration for his uncle’s cunning. He had always viewed Jonathan as frail and weak, but it seemed he was far more calculating than anyone had imagined.
It appeared that after the death of Xavier’s father, the Patriarch had placed him in charge of the company, a move that had undoubtedly left Jonathan seething with resentment.

When is the novel ending? It’s so unnecessarily long… not a single intimacy or connection just fighting and bickering from the beginning to end...
